A Review Of Tom Wesselmanns Great American Nude

Ch. 3 Perception Key 1. I would award Tom Wesselmanns’ Great American Nude painting for first place because the artistic form of colors are bright and full of life which leads me to believe that the artist that painted this picture also felt this woman herself was bright and full of life. But the woman still has a little bit of mystery which is why he didn’t paint a face on her. We can tell she lives a modern lifestyle because of the phone, perfume and flowers. For second place, I would award Giorgione, Sleeping Venus because the slumber way she lays makes it seem almost as though she is a goddess. This painting has a lot of detail and I can tell that the artist participated a lot of his attention and time to creating it. The third place
winner is Jean-August-Dominique Ingres, Large Odalisque. According to the book, this is a portrait of a prostitute idealized by the addition of the three extra vertebrae, achieving a lengthened similar to Modiglani’s. This painting is third place because of the content from the artistic form that it reveals. By perceptually observing, the colors emphasize the prostitutes’ fair skin and green eyes.

2. If I were to judge the best work of art out of Cummings’ l)a, Cezanne’s Mont Saint-Victoir, or Le Corbusiers Church, I would choose Le Corbusiers Church. According to page 58 in ”The Humanities Through the Arts “, the caption of the picture states that the chapel is built on a hill where a pilgrimage chapel was destroyed during the Second World War. Le Corbusier used soaring lines to life the viewers’ eyes to the heavens and the surrounding horizon visible on all sides. With that being said, I believe that a lot of time and patience was required in order to obtain such beauty.
