A Look Into The Arts
Art is one aspect of the past that has carried on for decades. Art in any form may it be poetry, novels, and playwright, sculpting as well as painting, has been an outlet for generations and continues to be an outlet and a means for expression. This paper will discuss “ The Mona Lisa” one of Da Vinci’s most famous paintings, as well as another great painting, Antonio Veneziano’s “Virgin and Child”(c. 1380). Both paintings focus on the human form and exhibit many variations of styles from lines, shading, color and possible meanings behind the work. The first piece of artwork that will be looked is from the Renaissance Era. Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”(c. 1519) a painting that is known around the world, which has been known to cause skepticism as to who is this woman. Did she really exist? Or is this merely a self-portrait that Da Vinci was able to show his private devotion for the female form? The second piece of artwork that will be discussed is from The Middle Ages. Antonio Veneziano’s “Virgin and Child”(c. 1380) both pieces of art work stem from different eras but share many commonalities as well as shows the transformation of art techniques from Sfumato, to perspective, as well as linear perspective, Humanism, foreshortening and more between each era.
In the Early Renaissance Era, artists from Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael Sanzio, Piero della Francesca, Sandro Botticelli and more, developed a passion and ability to create art that could capture a moment may it be a beautiful moment or tragic moment. These artists were also able spark creativity and question in the human mind as to what is or was and

July 18, 1610: Porto Ercole, Italy. The ports and city on the northeastern shore of the Tuscan city remained under Spanish jurisdiction. Two days prior, a man whom resembled a Spanish outlaw, was arrested and imprisoned upon arrival in the port. Authorities were unable to identify the man's true identity because his real identity was also that of a convicted outlaw, Michelangelo Merisi. Some time before he was released from the jail, Merisi contracted malaria and it would claim his life on this day. Merisi, known throughout Europe as simply "Caravaggio" (after the city he was from), was not just a murderer on the run; Caravaggio was a famous artist, made infamously popular by his paintings of graphic and sometimes violent biblical scenes.…

Thesis: I am analyzing two paintings, “Rachel Weeping” by Charles Willson Peale, and “Virgin and Child” by Hugo Van Der Goes. I will be concentrating on the differences between the two paintings which were created in two very different time periods, in two very different worlds, during two very different points in their creators respective lives; making these paintings that seem similar as first glance, almost polar opposites.…

This essay aims to investigate two different time periods in the history of art. It will scrutinize the influence that the respective societal contexts had on the different artists, which in turn, caused them to arrange the formal elements in a specific way. I will be examining an Egyptian sculpture of the god Isis nursing Horus, her son, as well as the Vladimir Virgin icon, which dates from the Byzantine era. Experts vary on the precise ‘lifetime’ of the Ancient Egyptian civilization, but according to Mason (2007:10) it existed from 3100 BCE up to 30 BCE. The Byzantine era, which revolved around the Eastern Roman Empire of Byzantium, stretched from the 5th century up to the year 1453 (Tansey & Kleiner, 1996:285). I will start this investigation by doing a formal analysis of both artworks. Then I will go on to place each work in its respective context. Lastly, I will compare and contrast them.…

I chose to evaluate two works of art from two different time periods, one from the Baroque era and another from the Neoclassical artworks. The first piece of artwork that I chose is the "Resting Girl". This beautiful work of art was created by Francois Boucher in 1715 and is the perfect example of a late Baroque style painting which features the Rococo style. This painting is located in the Wallraf Museum in Cologne, Germany. This painting consists of oil on canvas and was the very example of applying a light romantic touch. Boucher used light and delicate colors with emphasis on the interiors which were elegant and exuded luxury.…

The topic of the Renaissance workmanship that we have considered so far in ARH 1000 has been about religion—all the more particularly portrayals of Biblical stories including Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, mystically enchanted heralds, examples of piety, the Apostles, and so on. These cognations in topic to Christianity and religion come concretely from workmanship from the Byzantine period. A comparative pattern of topic can be paralleled from two diverse time periods and spots: a piece by an Italian painter around 1280-1290 and an alternate by a Flemish painter in 1479. Cimabue's Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets is an extraordinary illustration of Byzantine workmanship. The profundity of the painting is moderately level and portrays a religious scene. The Virgin Mary sits on a throne with an infant Jesus Christ on her lap with heavenly attendants and prophets looking on in reverence. I likewise observed that Mary and Jesus are up front in the piece. Then again, a piece from the early Renaissance portrays a fundamentally the same picture like Cimabue's piece. Hans Memling's Virgin with Saints and Angels adscititiously portrays the Virgin Mary fortifying child Jesus with numerous spectators that incorporate heavenly attendants and holy persons. The mother and youngster are supplementally up front on the inside board of the Saint John altarpiece. The two pieces designated both have the…

There are variety races and colors of people living in this world, and different ethnics and economic situations cause the distance among races. Though there are many people who have overcome the prejudice from history, prejudice and discrimination still exist today. Vincent N. Parrillo wrote an essay, “Causes of Prejudice”, provided the origin and many causes of prejudice and looked at prejudice from a psychological and sociological stand points. And Malcolm X tells the process of his independent learning of critical and creative thinking about racial problems in his essay, “Learning to Read”. Another essay authored by Studs Terkel, “C.P. Ellis”, provided Ellis’ story that offers a credible way of how he removed his prejudice. Both Malcolm X and C.P. Ellis are examples of what have been written in “Causes of Prejudice”, and the causes of prejudice can perfectly explain the behaviors of Malcolm X and C.P. Ellis. So, racial prejudice can be categorized into two factors: psychological factors such as beliefs, emotions, personality, and unsatisfied expectations, and social factors such as socialization process and social norms. People should learn to understand the underlying reasons of causing prejudice, open their eyes and minds to the reality, go out of socialization process and their social norms, and finally to overcome the prejudice and discrimination.…

What made the 15th-18th century artwork so unique, was that artwork began appearing for more purposes than merely that of the church’s benefit. Families commissioned artists, inventions were mapped out by artists, and psychological expression and shapes took on a new roll without religion forcing its hand. The Renaissance artist, inventor and architect that must be mentioned first and foremost would be the great Leonardo da Vinci. Born in 1452, the brilliant Italian “Jack of all trades” took to various types of mediums and was always putting his skills to use for his fellow man.…

Hearing Nurse John is not as common as hearing Nurse Betty or Nurse Jane. But recently more men have decided to take the nursing career path and become male nurses, also referred to as “murses.” The article “I Want Your Job, Lady” in Time states that “in a sour economy, men are flocking to nursing, child care and other ‘female’ professions” (Cullen et al., 2003). The nursing profession needs to take steps to erase completely the gender-bias that still exists because although nursing is less discriminatory than it has been in the past, for too long the stereotype that nursing is a career only for women, kept men from entering the profession, but with the current acute shortage of nurses, the profession needs everyone with a calling--regardless of gender; in fact, in specific settings such as a mental hospitals, male nurses because of their greater physical strength are in particularly high demand.…

    Venus Of Urbino Analysis

The three works of art that I have chosen to write about are “Venus” of Urbino, Spirit Spouse and Zenobia in chains. The Venus of Urbino was a painting made in 1538 in Florence, Italy. It depicts a Venetian courtesan woman lying down naked in a bed with provocative gestures. She has very fair skin and a Rubenesque body type. The 16th century was a time where women were depicted with a more curvaceous body type to express their wealth because in those times the thicker a man or a woman was the wealthier they were. Despite her being completely naked, titian decided to place her left hand on her body part to convey a sense of beauty, purity, modesty and as a sign of respect for Greek beliefs. Moreover, the Spirit spouse was made in the early 20th century in Ivory coast out of…
