A Stereotypical Grandmother: A Short Story Of Halloween
The _____ We all know of that stereotypical grandmother. You know, the grandmother that always has a fresh batch of delicious cookies waiting for you on the kitchen table. However, I have a grandmother who would always try to scare us around Halloween. She would perform all sorts of tricks in order to scare us. One time she dressed up in a black cloak with a horrifying skull mask and waited in the musty smelling basement for an hour and a half just to jump out at one of us when we walked down the creaking old stairs. She not only scared us physically, but she would tell us scary stories every Halloween night as well. There was just something about this story she told us one year. Something about it that seemed all too realistic to be made up. It was the first Halloween after her husband had passed away. He was a hard-working man, a handyman, who also enjoyed scaring us around this time of year. Thus, she decided to tell us about all the weird things that had been happening around the house since he’s been gone. We all gathered around her and waited for the story to begin, when all of a sudden my cousin jumped out of his chair to go dim the lights. I hated it when she would tell her stories in the dark, but it was …show more content…

As I lie in bed that night I found myself twisting and turning unable to fall asleep, when I heard the loud screech of the screen door opening. I quickly sat up in bed listening to see if somebody was in the house when I heard what sounded like light footsteps walking towards my room. I pretended to be asleep just waiting for the potential intruder to come creeping into my room. I watched the doorway, but nobody ever entered. That is when I felt a light press on the bed beside me as if someone had just lied in my bed. I quickly rolled over to see that nobody was there and fell asleep thinking that I was just going

Like any other person would do around halloween to pay a ridiculous amount for people to scare you when you can do it for free, buts that’s not the point. It was my mom, dad, two family friends; Ben, Joe, and of course I was there too. Well, my aunt Lucy and her partner Laura were supposed to go but they were too scared to go, so they just stood in the car and waited for us to come out.…

My spook tacular Halloween consists of three things, which are getting dressed up in my extravagant costume, eating superb candy, and watching “ Charlie Brown and the Pumpkin Patch” with my family. This may sound really fun right, well before I can enjoy my fun Halloween evening, I have a lot to accomplish before I am allowed to enjoy my evening. Normally the first thing I do in the morning is I bring the decorations up from the basement and hang them up. The next thing I have to do is absolutely horrific, that small task leads to a long amount of time spent on actually making this gigantic orange item, and that item is carving a pumpkin. The third and final task I must complete is picking out different assortments of candy with my mom. After…

My eyes snap open and the image of a room slowly focuses into my vision. I look around wondering where I am and become aware of a loud shrill noise. Then I remember, this is my place now, this is where I live and that clock needs to stop beeping. Slowly I get out of bed and look into the mirror asking myself the same question as I always do, "Why am I getting up, its not like there is anything for me to do." My room is nothing like I remember it from last night. Last night I had strewn the clothes I was wearing all about the room and sequentially thrashed it by everywhere looking form my pajamas that I somehow never seem to find. Now, my room is all clean. At least the clothes had provided some color to…

It was still in its nondestroyed state. I was with my friends from night one plus my friend's mother that I mentioned earlier as well, and my own parents. I walked into the building and I saw that room with a locked door that has the light on at all times. I was told to never go inside of that room. They told me that it was not for me to go into. I was going on vacation to this house for some reason so I had to unpack my bag in a bedroom. The house was very old so I ignored any movement that I heard I put my things on the bed and I was very cold. My mom called out for me to go to the main room. I went out there and noticed that people were crucified, hanged, torn in half, and burned. The door with a mysterious light was open and the girl was standing in front of it. I was afraid not because of the bodies but because the door was open. The girl motioned for me to come to her and I was unable to resist walking to her. As I got closer she looked more disfigured and evil. Her eyes were the biggest part that I remember. They were black with light pupils. She had claws like in my earlier dreams and she had a scream that paralyzed me. She ran at me and right as she was about to hit me I saw every event that I have that I have done to help or hinder people in real life. This felt like it went on forever and then I woke up screaming and in a cold sweat. My mother was trying to wake me up for ten minutes because of my screams. I knew that something was wrong at this…

On my first reading of this story, I initially felt the fear frequently seen in grandmothers in confronting danger and how they try to convince us to stay away from it: "The Misfit is a loose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he did to this people….", the grandmother said. As I have experienced in the past, once a Mom and Dad have made a decision to do something, it's difficult to change plans, and least from an elderly mother wish. The story continues on a kind of humorous way as the family travel through the country and the grandmother talks of how were the old days and how different are these time. "People are certainly not like they used to be" the grandmother told Red Sam while in the lounge.…

The last thing I remember is falling asleep during a late night rerun of the Twilight Zone. So when it happened, it was especially eerie, like I had stepped into a lost episode, but Rod Serling was nowhere in sight; for moment, neither was anybody else. At 4:31 AM a merciless shove pushed me off my bed. I crawled on the floor, trying to escape the cruel, uncontrollable shaking, but it followed me. It followed me down the stairs and underneath the dining room table where my family joined me. Little did I realize that before the morning sun rose again, I would see everything differently.…

I was too scared to be able to sleep quickly. It was almost half an hour later when I was still lying awake that I heard a faint noise of anklets. I immediately dismissed it as my mind’s trick - it was because I was scared that I was hearing things. It was then that Ria asked me in a hushed voice if I could hear the sound as well or not. I knew that both of us could not hear the same sound if it was not for real. We were staring at each other in the dark, terrified and unable to move as the sound of the anklets came closer. We covered ourselves with the blanket and held on to each other with our eyes closed shut. The sound of the anklets was now exactly outside our room, separated from us only by the door. Two seconds later we heard the door creak open as we held our breaths – too scared to even breathe. We could now feel someone moving around in the room, moving things. After what seemed like an…
