Upon first arriving to APDG, I received a warm welcome from Richelle, who gave me an introduction to the company, providing me with all the information I needed to begin my new position. I began in dental hygiene seeing recall patients, Dr. Vegas was so highly impressed with my work ethic that she requested me to be trained as her restorative assistant. A few weeks later, and after only four months in the company, I was given another opportunity to work alongside Dr. Pena in sedation. Dr. Pena has taught me how to be a good assistant, the importance of being efficient, and provide a WOW experience to each patient. Laurene provided support and trained me how to properly document notes into patient's chart and follow office procedures to always provide quality and accuracy. Furthermore, Dr. Huda taught me the importance of patient safety, and how to respond to emergency situations. We had to call a code recently on a mother of one of our patients, who began seizing in the sedation center. I was able to remain calm to quickly respond to the situation without compromising the patient's safety. When I met with the mother she told me that her child had never been able to successfully take x-rays and was previously restrained for his last cleaning. Patience, my ability to communicate effectively to help the child feel comfortable, and relax contributed to doing a successful cleaning and take all four radiographs without restraint. Best of all, we provided these services as a courtesy. The mother was so ecstatic about my approach that she told me she was switching all 3 of her children to APDG. In addition, I was chosen to assist Dr. Liou with his sedation inspection. I arrived the day before the exam to set up, test all the vital monitors, and to review the emergency safety manual. Dr. Munoz, the sedation examiner, was so blown away by my answers to his questions that he thought I was a pre-med student.
