Some of these children have disabilities. Do you think people's perceptions of others play a role in the success of children with disabilities? Why or why not? Yes, I do, especially the perception teacher have of children with disabilities. When teachers do not look at children’s disabilities, and only look at the child, and what the child needs in order to succeed in their classroom, I believe it makes for a more rewarding environment for both the student and the teacher. When a teacher truly cares about their students it shows in the success of their entire classroom. When teachers look at their disability as a hindrance, and a bother, they are less likely to work and accommodate for the student, which lowers the students’ self-esteem as well as shows the other students in the classroom that that student is not as valuable as the others.…
People always say everybody is equal. If this statement is true why do we act as if we are either insignificant or superior when contrasted with our peers? I was once if there are social classes in our town of Stirling. As I pondered this question I struggled to come up with a valid answer for quite some time. It was when I realized that everybody has their own opinion based on their perspective, or in other words Everybody views their peers differently. For example in the book “The Outsiders” written by S.E Hinton Ponyboy probably views the socs girls differently than the other members of his gang. In conclusion I believe that your perspective determines your social class.…
disagree with this. I disagree because even with their handicaps not everyone is on the same level. This is because by how heavy your handicaps, a simple observation is all anyone needs to know how smart, strong, athletic, or skilled you are. The purpose of the handicaps are to disable you and put on the same level with everyone else.…
Having everybody equal looks fantastic in planning but it would never work out that way. If the government was allowed to impose handicaps on the naturally gifted, how could civilization ever make advancements? The great thinkers would not be able to envision new ideas because of the mental handicap radios they had to wear in their ears. Technology would come to a stand still with the gifted not being able to finish a complete thought because of the sharp sounds produced by the mental handicaps. With the handicaps imposed there would not the breakthroughs that are needed to improve the population's way of life. Suppose someone did not have the ability to invent the automobile. It would be difficult to commute to school or work. Imagine if you had to walk to work every day no matter how bad the weather is. Now-a-days people complain about having to simply walk out to their car in the morning and wait for it to warm up. Many jobs would have never been created if there were not any cars. Without technological advancements, the economy would also come to a stand still.…
If we have high self-esteem and self-worth, it means that we appreciate our own worth and value ourselves highly. Conversely then, having low self-esteem means that we feel helpless and powerless to cope and can even feel depressed.…

Other people’s perceptions of one’s circumstance matters more than our own perceptions of who we are. A large portion of the population fears being judged by their peers and not being “accepted” in society. From childhood,…
I think it makes much more sense to treat all learners differently. I think of it as a parent. If I have 4 children it is my responsibility to address each child’s needs. You can raise all children in the same home and they will all 4 walk away with a different experience and interpretation of what went on. I see the classroom the same way. A relationship should be built from the beginning. This way the students know that everyone in the classroom has different needs and I will do my best to meet them all. There is no favoritism just fairness. This has to be explained and revisited throughout the school year.…
supports his statement that the class you are in effects you in the classroom and your level of achievement, by using statistics from researcher William Sewell. Sewell “showed a positive correlation between class and overall educational achievement. In comparing the top quartile (25%) of his sample to the bottom quartile, he found that students from upper-class families were twice as likely to obtain training beyond high school and four times as likely to attain a postgraduate degree†(pp.342-343). Sewell concluded: “socioeconomic background…operates independently of academic ability at every stage in the process of educational attainmentâ€( pp.342-343).…
The word handicapped implies below average. Therefore, to make everybody equal, everybody would have to be dumbed down to somebody with the lowest in intelligence, the mentally retarded. If this were the case, then who would be running society? In other words, everybody in the country would be an idiot. Obvious problems would be deciding who is in charge, what the laws are, how they are enforced and so on. Not to…
Low self-esteem and self- identity is when discrimination can lead to people losing their self-worth or self-esteem. Some vulnerable people may already have low self-esteem before using a health and social care setting. This could be due to bullying or other types of discrimination such as racism, sexism, ageism etc. A person may have a negative self-identity. This can lead to a feeling of worthlessness and depression. They may become withdrawn and isolate themselves within their home to make them feel like they are alone and that no one is there for them too.…
2). When a student should be identified and isn’t, he may be stripped of the services he really needs in order to succeed. On the other hand, if a student is identified and shouldn’t be, it creates an inaccurate impression of a child’s intelligence and potential in the classroom. Along with that, it makes him more susceptible to judgment, as classmates begin isolating students that are “different.” Also, once a student is labeled in special education, he is all of the sudden far less likely to receive access to the full curriculum and given limited interaction with his “abled” peers, actually providing him fewer education opportunities throughout his years in…
In today's society it seems that everywhere you look, you are pressured into thinking of yourself as inferior. There are signs every where you look telling you that you are not pretty enough, smart enough, thin enough, or that anything you have is not good enough. This ever-present pressure that the media puts on people causes low self-esteem (Tuberose, par 6). When people are stressed out or have low…
