Abortion Essay: Democracy And Freedom Of Choice
Democracy... it is the foundation of our beliefs as Americans. It is what has allowed our country to prosper and thrive for as long as it has, and with democracy comes the freedom of choice. On paper this sounds simple and spectacular, but with the freedom of choice we must also accept the complexity of choice. There are millions of voices in our country and an uncountable number of views and morals. As a democracy we debate these views and morals in an attempt to distinguish what is “right” and what is “wrong.” One such debate is that of abortion. It is a topic that has, for lack of a better term, divided our country between those who support a female's right to decide what happens to her body, and those that believe as soon as a child is …show more content…
Just like the pill the surgical removal has two methods of operations. When a woman is at least fifteen weeks and down pregnant they use the vacuum aspiration method. This surgery involves a gentle suction. The sedation helps the female feel relaxed and sleepy. The surgery can be done with a local anesthetic. The recovery is super-fast; you can go in one day and come out the same day. The fifteen to twenty-four week surgical abortion is the last resort. This happens with general anesthetic. What the doctor does is they remove the unborn child by using narrow forceps and pass it through the neck of the womb to have a gentle suction remove …show more content…
According to Texas Politics Today, “abortion clinics must meet the standards of hospital surgical centers; abortion doctors must have admitting privileges at hospitals within 30 miles; and women may not have abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy” (Maxwell, et al. 15). They believe that abortion is the murder to an unborn human life. Conservatives believe that the fetus has different rights from the mother. Even conservative politicians are trying to stop taxpayer’s money from being used to provide abortions.
In the liberal view, they believe that the mother has the right to choose what happens to the fetus. Liberals believe that the fetus does not have separate individual rights. They also believe that the child humane start at birth.
In my opinion, I stand with the liberals because unprotected sex happens more than we would all like to admit. Sometimes women do become pregnant and they are simply not ready to become a mother. Women need to think about whether or not they can support and raise the child. I think if you can barely support yourself then you should not have a baby. People might say “place the baby up for adoption,” and yes that is an option, but adoption does not guarantee that someone will select the baby at all. Overall, I feel we should keep the abortion clinics open for the women who choose to have an abortion, but they should be well aware that this cannot

Argument 1: Pro-abortion liberals are wrong to make ‘choice’ the ultimate issue. No one has absolute freedom of choice sanctioned by law. One can choose to rob a bank, or to kill their one-year-old child, but it is not legal. Why should a woman have the legal right to take the life of her unborn child?…

The 2012 Political Party Platform exchanges values across many topics, one of which is the controversial issue of abortion. From the Democratic standpoint, the “party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.” [2012 Democratic Party Platform, p.18]. In a liberal context, women have the right to control their individual reproductive choices, and as abortion is an intimate, personal decision, governmental and political intervention is prohibited. Conservative Republicans identify differently: they “support a human life…

Abortion has many different meanings to various people. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before a fetus is formed. Abortions are most likely to occur before the third trimester. Roe v. Wade was a lawsuit that established the unconstitutionality of forbidding abortion from women. The Supreme Court stated that the decision of abortion should be left up to the doctor and the patient. The Due Process Clause protects people with the right to privacy and therefore, this should include a women’s right to terminate a pregnancy. Most liberals and democrats agree that women should be able to have the right to do what they want with their bodies, no matter how cruel one might think it is. Conservative republicans on the other hand consider the possible child a human and are fighting for the rights of the non-existent child. Both sides are heavily opinionated which…

The supporters of pro-life base their argument that the fetus is a human; therefore, not only is abortion killing a human wrong, but it is also illegal. They consider the fetus human because it grows like any other human, which is why the followers of pro-life are trying to get abortion illegal. It is wrong in every sense to kill another human being. Likewise, people that kill other people have to go to prison, yet these mothers of these kids get let off. The Supreme Court case in Texas involving abortion is the first step to try and stop the murder of innocent lives. The new law on abortion is asking for tighter abortion laws that led to more abortion clinics closing. It is hoping to “eliminate legal abortion.” 3 This will lead to closings of clinics all around the country and not just in Texas. Texas is even starting to see a change in the number of clinics these past few years from the new law that was placed in 2013. “Texas is now home to 17 abortion clinic, down from 41 in 2012, just before the law was passed.”4 Besides the closing of abortions clinics all over Texas, the state is hoping that increasing the price of getting an abortion by fifteen percent will scare these young ladies from getting the procedure done. The whole point of this new law will hopefully make the mother’s rethink their decision when they have to drive a far distance to get an abortion and have to pay quite a bit of…

The Massacre that was held in Boston Massachusetts on March 5, 1770 was a small yet horrific event. It started out as colonist teased and taunted the British soldiers. They also threw rocks and whatever else they could throw at them. The soldiers reacted to this by firing back at the colonist killing five people, three were killed on impact and two died later on, several were wounded. Immediately after, the colonist disappeared and the soldiers reported back to their barracks. Even though we cannot be exact on what happened for sure about what happened that day; some eyewitnesses claim they heard the commander tell the soldiers to load their weapons and fire. Some evidence proves Captain Preston’s innocence of not commanding the soldiers to fire, and that it was done in the heat of the moment (Martin Kelly).…

The pro-life side argues that nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester, when a fetus cannot exist independent of the mother. As it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb. The argument that pro-life states that in the instance of rape and incest, proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant. Abortion punishes the unborn child who committed no crime; instead, it is the perpetrator who should be…

Women have the right to make their own medical decisions, and should not have the input of the government. According to Fred Lucas, “ Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. Liberals strongly support a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.” (Lucas). Basically, Lucas is saying that as a whole liberals believe that the woman has the right to decide what she chooses for herself and the fetus.…

Abortion is defined as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own. It can also be defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy or the act of ending an unwanted pregnancy. Abortion itself is the most difficult and controversial moral issue to consider. The arguments that arise from this issue is life and death though the uncertainty of complication makes it difficult. The debate over abortion can be critical. Usually there are two voice of reason for this difficult topic: Pro-life and Pro-choice. Pro-life is a group that goes against abortion, they are all for life. They believe that human life begins at conception. Their basic concept and belief is that an unborn child deserves life. While Pro-Choice are for abortions. They believe a woman have the freedom to make her own choice. This group believes abortion is a personally protected choice. They advocates and continually argue for a woman’s right to choose, to have sovereignty over her own body.…

What is to happen to them? Abortions are a personal decision for the woman and for her body. Abortions can be done because the woman may not be in a time of their life where they are ready for children (financially, emotionally, relationship/ age-wise). People often say "USE PROTECTION!" and then "IT'S YOUR FAULT", but how do you know? Contraceptives are not always 100% effective, even when combining more than one. Sex shouldn't be something people use as a fear tactic. Sex shouldn't be taught as a punishment. Additionally, the growing fetus may be physically harming the woman or girl or destructive to itself. And to add to the original point, 14,000 abortions have been a result of rape or incest. If you were to place yourself in that womans shoes, how much would you hate yourself to be forced to carry your assaulters…

Women have the right do kill a pre-mature life, it is a part of her body, and it’s a reproductive right that Planned Parenthood is trying to protect. The general populous can do something help and one way to help protect them is by not thinking of abortion when Planned Parenthood is brought up. Another way to help Planned Parenthood and maybe have government funding be returned to them. Abortion is a right, not a government tool to choose if it’s right or…

Back in the 1970’s people rebuked the idea of Planned Parenthood. When they thought of it, the thought of abortion was directly connected. In all actuality, you would be surprised at how wrong they are. It is said that above 90 percent of the institutions population have terminated pregnancies, but really only three percent of the entire amount of women getting assistance partake in the procedure. Although, only three percent of the nation’s babies are aborted by Planned Parenthood, pro-life supporters still believe that is enough to terminate the program. To follow through with such a request would not only not decrease the abortion rate but it will also lead these women into the back alleys and liquor sanitized, home-made surgical tools. To rid the program is only asking to endanger hundreds of lives, especially the new lives brought into the world unwanted. The newborn who reminds her mother of the rape she experienced every single time she looks into her little eyes is an injustice…

There are many stakeholders involved in this issue, who often feel passionately about one side of the argument. For example, male and female citizens, religious groups, policymakers, Planned Parenthood, and other special interest groups are all involved in discussion about abortion, and whether Federal Government funds should be allocated to groups that perform abortion services. Politicians on the conservative (typically republican) side tend to oppose the practice and legality of abortion, while liberal politicians (typically Democrats) tend to value women’s choice in terminating pregnancy. It is a topic that is discussed in public official elections unfailingly. American opinions fall all along the spectrum between extremes. Citizens with extremely liberal views may believe abortion should be a woman’s choice and that the Federal Government should fund organizations that provide this service. On the opposite end, extremely conservative citizens may feel that abortion should be completely illegal, and…

The principle of autonomy is the ability to make one’s own decision and act on the decision freely and independently. It is also called self- determination because one makes a decision based on his/her allegiances (Purtilo & Doherty, 2011, P. 86). Since the autonomy focuses on making a decision freely and independently, it guarantee a person right to harm to oneself and others. For instance, In many Asian countries, most of family and parents prefer to have male child and when they know that they have female fetus, they decide to do abortion, legally and according to the principle of autonomy, they have right to make a decision for abortion but killing innocent fetus simply due to her gender is violence and harmful act, and it also harms the…

Such as the women’s health and their partners. Abortion does no good and should be illegal. There are other options, such as foster care. Even though the child may not have the best experience, they still have a life. A life is better than no life at all. If a child is aborted they will never experience the things we look forward to. They will never experience their first day of school, their first love, their first heartbreak, the person that will repair it, their high school graduation, their college graduation, their first job, and a child of their own. Abortion takes away a life. A life that is rightly deserved. A life that will be taken away because the child is unwanted or has a disability. As I state my case of Abortion should be illegal, look at the facts because that is all I have…
