Abraham Lincoln's War: An Analysis

Abraham Lincoln is one of America’s best presidents. He was able to abolish slavery and issued the emancipation of proclamation in his time in office. Lincoln was the only president that was willing to have a war with his own countryman to have a society that was truly free. A true republican is defined by conscience and regionalism, and Lincoln was a true republican. The 16th president was a man that was willing to stand for his morals and was unwavering on any thing that he set his mind to. Being unfavorable with the public or other statesmen did not worry him, because he held himself to a higher standard, biblical standard. Religion is often secularized in modern civil society, and even though Lincoln used the Machiavellian principle of appearing to be religious than actually being a devote Christian. In order for Lincoln to have a concept of charity, there had to be people before to start the conversation like Spinoza, Jefferson Winthrop, and Thomas Paine. Spinoza was basically the philosophical version of Lincoln. Spinoza understood that when charity is the bases of society, human types that follow law and order are created. When all of humanity acts “with God’s Spirit on the heart,” then it must follow that democracy is the “most natural” regime of all” (Havers, 40).
