Answer: Yes, I believe there is a problem to the absenteeism at ONO even though the books states “Unfortunately there are no industry-specific figures on the costs of employee absenteeism (F. Cascio, pg.53).” Because it does not mention whether or not any of the employees went past their allotted 12 days sick leave paid we cannot judge whether or not it is a big concern. Some organizations only payout vacation if an employee leaves so most individuals make sure to use their earned sick days so they do not loose them after the…

Total Absence Management is a major topic for all employers and employees. Frequent absences could affect the overall operation of any organization. Many employees have medical and personal issues that may jeopardize their job. This study covers this issue among others (i.e. pregnancy, health and financial issues). As a Human Resource Officer, this topic of discussion is very important and the literature presented in this study is relevant to my job. “Promoting healthier behaviors can lead to a more health-conscious workforce, reduced absences, earlier return to work and potentially lower incidences of disability – which can even contribute to a company’s bottom-line growth and prosperity” (Taylor, 2011). Employees will have health and financial issues that may affect their job performance. Employers that can integrate Total Absence Management programs into their organization will help their employees achieve their business objectives.…

There were a few months the company I work for was requiring the employees to work seven days a week with an extra four hours overtime on weekdays. During this time, absenteeism was on the rise. Everyone was so exhausted. There is a policy at work that allows an employee to be out self sick for up to three days for one attendance point, and no proof of the sickness was required. We had so many people taking three sick days just to have days off it was alarming. This policy has been in place for a very long time, and has not been overly used in that way until then. The company, although not intentionally, was affecting the resilience many people. Employees did not have the time to do those activities that allowed them to maintain their…

This will hamper the productivity levels within the organization which will put a damp on the revenue income in the organization. The employees will have knowledge of this and use it as a tactic in getting the managers of the organization to listen to their issues relating to the workplace. An example of this will be the out-patient clinic within a hospital not having any nurses or doctors attending to patients on a day that has the most outpatients to be seen. This will cause the patients to be very disturbed by the situation and the authorities will be mostly likely aware of the situation through the media. This will hamper the image of the organization and cause them to seek a quick solution to the issue that is causing the employees to work to rule.…

Measuring the costs of lost productivity and absenteeism can be hard to calculate but once an effective method has been established the results will be quite eye opening. Reliable studies have shown how unhealthy behaviors and illness can cost companies dearly, one such study conducted in 2002 found that at the Dow Chemical Company the cost of lost productivity due to health factors was just under 7% of their total labor costs. (Shultz,Chen, & Edington,2009) . This figure came from a survey conducted by their own employees so one can infer the actual percentage may be higher than what was reported. Many health problems effecting productivity can be countered by incorporating stress management into a wellness program. Those who may…
