As globalization becomes a trend in today’s world, national and cultural stereotypes draw numerous attentions by people. There are two articles written by Yong and Piller, One called ‘East meets West’ and another ‘Intercultural communication’. Yong discusses the stereotypes in human condition. On the other hand, Piller mentions about the stereotypes in economic activities. Yet, before any analysis can be done, the definition of stereotype need to be clarified. Stereotypes are characteristics but different from the nation, language, gender, cultural, and other factors. Moreover, A stereotype is a thought that adopted by different groups of people or a specific way of doing things. This essay contains three parts. In the first part, different ideas from texts will be compared and contrasted, while similarities and differences will be found out. A judgment about how much national and cultural stereotypes are no longer a useful way of examing the human condition and economic activity through the two texts will be considered in the second part. In the last part, an interesting element will be chosen and I will explain my reaction to it by giving examples from my own experience. There are two similarities between two articles. Yong’s topic is the same as Piller’s in that they both talk about stereotypes. Yong refers to the stereotype that easterners have a holistic world view, while westerners tend to think more analytically and other stereotypes in
