Accelerating Universe and Dark Energy
1) In your own words explain how COBE mission and WMAP mission provided evidence for the Big Bang Theory.
The COBE mission and WMAP mission provided evidence for the Big Bang Theory because the COBE mission took measurements of the universes temperature, and they discovered heat left from the Big Bang. The WMAP provided evidence for the Big Bang Theory because it got more detailed information, temperature and measurements of the COBE mission and provided scientists with a more detailed map of the radiation.

2)In your own words, explain how cave systems are formed in Florida.
Cave systems in Florida are formed by the weathering of rocks, and can go deep underground. Also, groundwater can cause the ground to open and cave in, forming a cave.

3)In your own words, explain how a radiosonde can be used to predict future weather conditions in a location.
A radiosonde can be used to predict future weather conditions in a location because it is carried into the atmosphere usually by a weather balloon and measures humidity, temperature, pressure and other factors needed to determine the weather for that day, week, etc.

Weather itself is the state of the atmosphere at a given time. The weather seems very difficult to predict, however it is not as complicated as it seems. After looking at the variables and breaking down the pattern, a prediction can be made of the weather. The goal of this experiment is to look at the weather conditions for a given month, and then tell what shaped it, or what caused a certain variable to change.…

It is the caverns that give the state park its name. Created during the Depression as a CCC project, the 1,300-acre park is honeycombed with caves large and small. This un-Florida-like geological feature is the result of Florida’s limestone base bumping the tail end of the uplift that becomes the Appalachians. And while the caves here do not match Mammoth Cave or Carlsbad Caverns, they nonetheless have an impressive array of stalagmites, stalactites, columns, flowstones, and other formations created over thousands of years by the steady drip of water.…

    6. What evidence supports the Big Bang Theory? The Big Bang is the leading theory that almost all astrophysicists believe explains the origin of the universe. This is because all observations so far made support the Big Bang theory; there are four main lines of evidence that are most-often used. The expansion of the universe. The universe is expanding now, so in the past it must have been smaller. If it were smaller in the past, then there probably was a time when it was infinitesimally small…

Sinkholes are a part of the slow, natural process of erosion in Florida’s limestone terrain that occur over thousands of years (“How”). Sinkholes occur in Florida because much of the state’s land sits on soft limestone that is susceptible to dissolving, creating sinkholes. The whole state of Florida sits on top of thousands of feet of carbonated limestone, but the region where most sinkholes happen is the west-central part of Florida.…

Dopplers, radar, and satellites are great tools for gathering observational data. However, with this technology, there are limitations and challenges that meteorologist face that affect forecasts. One of the biggest challenges is comprehending all the compiled data that it sent it. The biggest limitation with forecasting tornadoes is a concept called spatial uncertainty which is the lack of knowledge or data on an object’s geographic location. In this case, Tornadoes pose an incredible difficulty with issuing warnings. Based on data collected over the years shown in Figure 2, there was a consensus that “Tornado season” occurs during the springtime and more tornadoes occur more frequently in the Great Plains, as known as “Tornado Alley”. The warning system in the U.S. is efficient in alerting people of an impending tornado with the use of radios, television, sirens, etc. However, there was a ban placed in 1887 on broadcasting tornadoes based on a census among scientist that tornado forecasts were more harmful than beneficial (Colman, 567). When the band was officially lifted they were usually only issued in a matter of seconds during the ‘50s and ‘60s. Now we can issue a warning at least 15 minutes prior due to today’s technology. The main goal for the future of forecasting is closing the gap between warnings and watches so issuing warnings are more accurate and maybe…

Satellites are equipped with what are called radiometers. They measure electromagnetic energy that the Earth and the atmosphere reflect, scatter, transmit, and emit. The two types of radiometers measure visible light from the sun and radiation emitted from the earth’s surface or its clouds. When the visible light radiometers produce images, they represent sunlight reflected off of objects on the Earth, which could be clouds, water, vegetation or something else. The radiometers measure radiation wavelengths between 10 and 12 microns. When these radiometers produce images, it is representative of heat rather than light, cold is white and hot is black. These are beneficial because it gives information day and night, unlike visual imagery. The IR satellite images are used to tell if clouds are height or low based on temperature, cold means high clouds while warm means low. Knowing cloud heights and temperatures help determine where weather will be coming from, or what will be forming in the future. Visible images help determine cloud types based on their visibility. The visibility is based on the number of water drops in it to reflect light. Knowing cloud types helps determine where rain or storms are happening, where is starts or and where it will end. Less commonly used is water vapor imagery. It can be used in some situations when areas cant be seen visibly or are being covered by clouds hiding the temp…

It can be installed with low-frequency radar beams that cannot be easily detected by culprits thus making the arrests that would otherwise have gone without being made. They can also be improved such that they can cover larger distances and maintain efficiency (Sood, 2008). This eliminates the risk of law enforcers being too close to the action such that they risk losing their lives. Doppler radars used for weather purposes can be equipped with sensors that determine among other conditions things like humidity. This ensures that weather prediction can be as accurate as…

All living beings live in an environment surrounded by the atmosphere. So, all changes and phenomena occurred in the atmosphere and in the environment lived in affect all the livings very much, human being as well. To be able to minimize the negative effects of the phenomena occurred and to be able to use the results of those phenomena more beneficial for the human being, it is very important to observe the atmosphere and the environment. From the early stage of the history till date human being have been interested in the weather, and to predict its changes. The weather was so effective and important in their life that, in the most of the mythologies of several cultures, some of the weather events were believed to be done by a special god of each phenomenon. In other words, they gave the names of the weather phenomena to their gods. God of wind, god of rain, god of thunder, god of sun, god of storm were some of the gods believed as a result of the effectiveness of weather events. So, it has become more and more important for human being to observe the weather for both to be able to understand the messages of their gods and to be able to use those phenomena for their benefits more efficiently, i.e. to minimize the negative effects and to increase the positive effects. For example, some measures had to be taken against heavy rain and flood while the wind was used for windmill. Consequently, following essential parameters were started to be observed and to be evaluated by using very simple techniques and methods:…
