Accountant Personal Statement
After I graduated from Temple University ten years ago, like everyone else, I set out to find a job in my field. During my time at the university I found an internship that gave me the experience needed to start my desired career. I always dreamed of having a six-figure salary and becoming high-class straight out of college, but after graduation day I started my career as a basic accountant. At this time, I felt that my career was in a stale and stagnant position. Only once I sought higher education and passed a few exams did I make notable progress in my career. After I developed my education and earned my Master’s Degree, I managed to find an engaging and well-paying job in my field. Yet again, I felt my career had become static. Not that

My career spans a bit over 20 years in various administration positions in many different industries. Most of my career was spent in the manufacturing industry. In the beginning, for approximately 5 years, I was a receptionist, handling the most basic of responsibilities. Later began a stretch of time that I worked in an administration type of position as a planner and raw material control. This position allowed me to learn more of the industry, receiving the raw material, assigning it to appropriate work orders, and maintaining the flow of production on the raw material end. Finally, I moved into the area of accounting performing accounts payable for the freight side of a manufacturing company for around 7 years, which is where I found my desire to further my career. Those years of working in the accounting area has given me the confidence to move forward and push my career further.…

As middle age lurked its unwanted presence I began to recognize how true and applicable the saying “life is too short” applied to almost everything the average middle-aged person set to accomplish. At age 42, I have no regrets in life. My parents set the stage for my desire for achievement and accomplishment, and I set out to do the same for my children. A person’s lifespan is their legacy; and I strongly believe that nothing happens by chance, all things happen as a consequence of some action. For example, my enrollment in this course was the consequence of years of work in a field that I no longer hold a passion. I started career as a high school girl’s basketball coach and somehow 22 years later managed to service 14 years in United States Air Force; two years as a State Correctional Officer; and seven years as a State Auditor. My academic career has seen me bounce from nursing to education and finally settling with business. My most important career as a mother is about to take new direction, as my youngest children begin their collegiate journey. So the question I asked myself was “What do I do now”? I recently obtained my Masters degree in Management and Leadership and was not sure I wanted to return to school so soon; however the profession that I’ve longed to do for so many years…

I had always heard the same thing, “Graduate from a good college and find a decent living, and you’ll be happy and successful.” Hah! What a capitalistic, factory-produced, mind-n(d)umbing fairy tale to tell impressionable children, I thought. Nope, I was smarter than that. I would be the one to take the road less traveled—to go against the grain and live my own life the way I wanted to. After barely graduating high school with a GED (or a GED equivalent actually…), I took off to LA to become a music-producer. I was going to be big. I learned the trade, worked inside multi-million dollar studios, and formed a band. I had it all figured out and I was going to show everybody that school was for fools. As with everything in life, this intoxicating success did not last. I began to feel something was missing. Here I was, living the dream that I had imagined for myself, and yet, I didn't feel much fulfillment.…

The field of Career counseling has gained increased recognition over the past several years and was developed to meet the needs of a society during the industrial age shift from rural to urban living and has extended its focus during other transitional periods of changes in how and where individuals work and live (Firman, 2014). Fundamental to career counseling movement is Frank Parsons, who is considered the father of the career guidance movement (Zunker, 2012). Career development is considered a crucial aspect of life where an abundance of research has been conducted over the past years to explain its significance. Change is an inevitable part of life thus making it important for individuals to know and understand how their decisions affect their career choices. Individuals are constantly experiencing growth which ultimately results in them making changes in…

A wise person once told me to “find a career and I will never be without a job.” I took that statement and ran with it! My freshman year everyone was motivating and questioning me on my future and what I wanted to do with. It started off as a counselor until I realized I do not necessarily BASK listening to INCONSOLABLE stories all day! Next it was a meteorologist, but can’t we look outside and see that it's raining? Then it was a teacher, and for that one let's just everything isn't for everybody! I found myself becoming BEWILDERED and feeling DESOLATED because I had peeked my junior year; the year where everything is supposed to be VAST and ready to go, and I was still AMBIVALENT on what I wanted “in the real world” as I heard in the many EXPOUNDING lectures. It was not until the summer of my senior year that God had finally put it in my heart to become a Pediatric Nurse Advisor; to become this person that can ASSUAGE and ABATE people, to become the…

The way I think of Accounting is that it is a fundamental part of our way of life. This is because I believe that every person in the world uses the principle of Accounting at least once in their lives. It can be things that they do in their daily life, for example, checking how much money they have with them, or how much they have spent; or they use it in businesses and large-scale transactions where it is commonly known.…
