Personal Essay
This is my personal essay that will give you a better understanding of myself
Vivian Christian. I will explain in this essay my reason for seeking my degree, my
learning style, and whether or not I agree with the findings that I have attained of
what my learning style is. I hope you gain a clearer insight of who I am and the
goals I 've set out to accomplish.
The question of why I am seeking a degree is one that is very easy for me to
answer. I 'm seeking my degree because I feel that college is very critical to our
learning and continued growth and development. I think that formalized

key to success in our everyday lives. In order for me to explain this, I
must give a brief description of where I 've come from and how I 've come to this
point in my life. My educational background is somewhat extensive, I graduated
high school in May 1995 at the age of 16 years old.
To some that may seem quite
impressive. During that time I had suffered a major loss in that of the passing of
my mother in 1994 from breast cancer. My mothers goals and wish was for me to
attain my diploma and get a college degree. After graduating high school I set out
to do just that and quickly learned that without financial support and guidance of
family and friends this task was much harder than I had expected. I also had no
clue as to what career path I wanted to take so I found myself continuously
enrolling into different programs and not completing any. I later married at the
age of 22 and then really begin to focus on how to provide for myself and family.
My husband and I both having entrepreneurial spirits agreed to start a business of
our own. We opened a small restaurant and later a childcare facility. During the
years of owning and operating those businesses I gained a lot of knowledge of
which I consider to be through the kinesthetic learning style of hands-on learning.
However I feel that had I obtained my degree either in business or some specialized
field of interest I would not have made some decisions and choices that
possibly
attributed to the close of our businesses. At the beginning of this year I decided to
pursue my degree and to make this goal top priority.
While I am learning more each day about myself and learning styles I have
found that my learning style is visual. Prior to take the inventory assessments and
after reading the lesson materials, I sat and contemplated on what I considered my
learning style to be. I must say that I do work better alone and the use of visual
aids has always been one that I would select. So I must agree with my results from
the two inventories that I selected. They were very insightful and helpful also.
In conclusion, I 'm excited to be at this place in my life that I can gain knowledge
and really focus on myself. No longer do I have to put everything and everyone
else before my goals and desires, I 've learned that I am a visual learner and I have
received the tips of how to maximize my learning style and help me in
accomplishing my goals whatever they may be while attending American Public
University System.
