ACT LOG 4

"Or bid me go into a new-made grave,And hide me with a dead man in his shroud -Things that, to hear them told, have made me tremble -And I will do it without fear or doubt,To live an unstain'd wife to my sweet love."

IMPORTANCE: The importance of this quote is it is showing Juliet’s love for Romeo, she is saying she would let anything happen as long as in the end she gets to live with Romeo happily in the end. She says she would go through the things she is most scared of just to be with Romeo.

CONNECTING: I can connect this quote to the movie Tangled because she is going through all her fears of the outside world just to see the lights she has been wanting to see since she was a little girl.

PERSONAL FEELING: I think Juliet is over reacting with her love with Romeo. She is going to fake her death and leave her parents and family and loved ones all for a guy she meet that week? She may be being a little dramatic about her love for him.

"O woe! O woeful, woeful, woeful day! Most lamentable day. Most woeful dayThat ever, ever I did yet behold!O day, O day, O day! O hateful day!Never was seen so black a day as this.O woeful day! O woeful day!"

IMPORTANCE: The nurse is explaining that dreading over life is not going to change a single thing. The nurse is explaining that complaining is not going to help her life at all. She needs to get up and do something about it if she wants it to become better.

CONNECTING: I have had a day or two where all I do is mope around and complain about how horrible life is then my mom comes in and makes fun of me for it and makes me get up and be active.

PERSONAL FEELING: I think the nurse is trying to help Juliet in this case but is being kind of rude about it to Juliet. The nurse could try and comfort Juliet through the hard times not be so ignorant towards Juliet.

In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the nurse, Juliet’s guardian and confidante, plays an essential role in the romance and ultimately the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The nurse, who obtains the paramount qualities of vulgarity, fierceness, and compassion, provides stability in the relationship between the two star-crossed lovers and realism and humor to the story. Firstly, the nurse’s vulgarity brings about comic relief. While telling Lady Capulet and Juliet a story about raising Juliet, she makes a sexual comment, saying that Juliet “wilt fall backward when {she} hast more wit,” (I, III, 45). She, being a low-class nurse, directs the remark toward Juliet, whose blood is purple. Although the nurse lacks sophistication and respect, the…

This quote seemed very important because it was the climax of the story, everything that happened after the Friar told Juliet the plan, seemed to happen because of this one decision. Consequently, unfortunate things did happen, and all because the Friar gave them bad advice in their situation, he might as well be the one to blame for their deaths.…

In this soliloquy, we see Juliet in her final moments prior to drinking the vial that is meant to stop her heart. Beginning her passage she bids farewell to her Mother and Nurse, who each have no knowledge of the plan Juliet and the Friar have made to stop her impending marriage to the Paris. The Friar gave her a potion made from a poisonous flower, intending for her to use it to fake her own death. At the time the Friar gave to potion to her, she indicated that she would do anything it takes to get out of a new marriage, even threatening to take her own life. Yet now Juliet expresses to the audience (or reader) that she is a bit skeptical of the plan, true to her natural character, being a skeptic who thinks things through fully. For the remainder of the passage we see her debate with herself and explore many possible…

This passage exhibits Juliet’s respect for herself as a person with her own desires and displays the fact that she can still show some humor in uncomfortable situations. Her ultimate act of defiance against her parents happens when she fakes her own death to be happy with her husband. Juliet demonstrates that it is her that controls the events of her life, not her…

However, when he meets Juliet at the party, she becomes his number one priority and he pursues her at all costs, even to the point of taking his own life because he thinks he has lost her. "For fear of that I still will stay with thee And never from this place of dim night Depart again. Here I will remain" (Act 5 Scene 3) Juliet also allows her heart to rule her head, for she lets herself get carried away in the excitement and joy of love, but she seems slightly more cautious and practical than Cleopatra in that she makes sure Romeo means his proclamations of love and faithfulness.…

Juliet's relationship with the nurse has changed over the beginning acts by becoming more involved in Juliet’s social life. Since Juliet had little social interactions in act 1, her relationship with the nurse was similar to a mom to a child, being that the nurse raised Juliet. When asked Juliet’s age, the nurse tells a funny tale of Juliet growing up, “For then she could stand high-lone. Nay, by th’/rood,/She could have run and waddled all about,”(1.3.40-2). As seen by the nurse’s story to Lady Capulet, the nurse was Juliet’s mother figure in her life. In contrast, as Juliet becomes involved with Romeo, the nurse supports her scheming with him, similar to support a friend gives. Mothers try to do what is best for their child, while friends…

Most of the themes in Romeo and Juliet relate to youth today and carry over into the modern society. One theme is, Teenagers don't think before they act and the consequences can be severe. In the quote by Juliet, "Well, do not swear, although I joy in thee, I have no joy of this contract to-night: it is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden....This bud of love, by summer's ripening breath, may prove a beauteous flower when we next meet", she is certain that she loves Romeo but she is cautious because as in the quote, her love seems "too rash, too unadvised, too sudden." So, while Juliet is a very passionate girl, she is also very smart and she realizes that her love can be dangerous. In the quote, "What if this mixture do not work at all? Shall I be married then to-morrow morning? No, no: this shall forbid it: lie thou there. Laying down her dagger What if it be a poison, which the friar Subtly hath minister's to have me dead, Lest in this marriage he should be dishonored, Because he married me before to Romeo?", she did not take careful consideration of the chances that things will not turn out the way the Friar expected. There were many decisions in the story that led to the downfall and deaths of many different characters of the novel.…
