Action Plan For Change Excellence in mathematics education rests on equity—high expectations, respect, understanding, and strong support for all students. Policies, practices, attitudes, and beliefs related to mathematics teaching and learning must be assessed continually to ensure that all students have equal access to the resources with the greatest potential to promote learning. A culture of equity maximizes the learning potential of all students (NCTM,2008). As I acquire my action plan for learning, I focus on important aspects such as standards, testing, equity, and accessibility. All students must have a chance to learn mathematics regarless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, or language (Laureate Education Inc., 2010). As a teacher we must set high expectations so that students give their best efforts and reach their goals. As a highly qualified teacher it is my job to provide the most efficient learning environment for my students that will allow them to establish a strong foundation in algebra. Teachers are constantly learning better strategies and teaching techniques for their students and this allows us to provide the most beneficial services to every student in order to be successful in algebra. I strive for my students to increase in their understanding of mathematics. This includes a firm conceptual understanding of arithmetic which is necessary for success in algebra (Laureate Education Inc., 2010). It is essential to set high expectations of all students including students that may not be expected to perform at high levels. I believe higher expectations will lead to better performance among all students. It is my desire to make a difference through my action plan by providing and modeling a positive learning environment that is engaging, rigorous, and impartial. My goal is to assist my students that are struggling by offering before or after school tutoring for students that
