Van Honthorst’s use of lines within this work of art, makes the girl seem to fade into the dark background of the image. The texture in this painting is characteristic of seventeenth century northern European art. The texture within this work of art is realistic as though what is in the painting could be touched and feel like silk on the sleeves of the dress and the feathers look like they feel soft and fluffy. There is a great range of value within this piece, the background of the painting is very dark while the girl in the painting has very pale skin making her stand out from the dark background. This image is asymmetrical, the way that the girl is seated and holding the oval portrait make the painting unbalanced, the image would be symmetrical if the girl was facing forward rather than a three-fourths view of her. The emphasis in this painting is her face and her smile, her pale face against the dark background really stand out, her rosy cheeks and big smile make it easy to spot across the room. This painting is realistic, she is proportionate and she looks like any other girl that one might see. Over all, this painting is pleasing to the eye and had a wonderful texture, and…
One thing that is most apparent in the poem and the painting alike is the weather conditions. Both detail the rough seas, coldness,…
Structure shows the courage in both the poem and the painting. The poem consists of fourteen lines and has the rhyme scheme of AABB. Also, it is a sonnet that contains both alliteration and onomatopoeia. The painting, is a painting and contains triangular pattern. The painting also contains contrast between light and dark.…
The use of colour, surface and composition all play an important part in conveying the restful and peaceful qualities of this painting. The painting consists almost solely of pale, neutral colours, which reflects the soothing quality of the two women sleeping. The use of the colour white also represents purity and goodness, representing the two upper-class women. Secondly, surface is also used to demonstrate the gentle vibe of the painting, with intricate detail used in detailing the luscious, soft fabric of the high class women. Every surface is portrayed as gentle, the tranquil lake, soft dresses and flowing fabric blankets – which all lend to the overarching theme of Endormies, meaning Sleeping in French. Lastly, the very neoclassical composition (one of the well-known compositions of neoclassic art was diagonal focus) helps represent the visual imagery in this picture. The eye is lead through two lines – the first made by the main subject (the sleeping woman in the…
It may at first glance appear that this painting is all jumbled up but you would be wrong. Reuben precisely placed each item in this painting. This style of painting is called Baroque. Baroque basically means elaborate and extensive detail used in a painting. Reubens avoids stiff lines and boring geometric forms to create life and motion in his painting. His flowing lines create movement in the painting. It is as if…
The art piece is representational, the lines are sharp and there are various and different shapes. The texture is smooth and there has been more than one colour that has been used in the painting. The tone shows that the sun is on him even though there is no sun shown in the portrait. Space and depth has been used as you can tell the objects are further away and the ones that are closer up and in detail.…
The two paintings show that, during the Renaissance, a man’s view of man was changing by painting more realistic and being more colorful.…
There we observed the change in the form of statues. Being able to see the statues and painting we’ve studied and saw in our textbook in real life amused me. Being able to go up to them and look at the details rather than staring at the photographs also made me more interested in the art itself. For this assignment I decided to compare “Seated Statue of Gudea” and “Statue of Eros Sleeping”.…
In this painting, you see around 60 Greek philosophers arranged in a very large hall. The philosophers are talking to each other, discussing theories or mathematical queries. It symbolizes philosophic thinking and the search for truth. On the wall you can see paintings and statues. He has used contour lines with domes and actual line with figures. Personalities are arranged like actors in a tired architectural setting, Raphael has represented distinguished Greek philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle (the central figures) Socrates and Euclid. Composition has been ordered brilliantly, clearly revealing his outstanding ability. The placing of each figure and each group combine to produce perfect harmony, order and balance, and, even though some sixty figures are used in the composition, there is no crowding. Therefore painting is asymmetrical. The main focal point of the painting is on Plato and Aristotle. The painting has more emphasis on these two philosophers than the others because they are centered in the middle of the composition and they are the only two standing in front of hall entrance with sky surrounding them.…
The striking colors, unusual perspective and familiar subject matter create work that not only is among Van Gogh’s most popular but one of his personal favorites. He described this painting as great length in letters to his family. This painting is no less than 13 letters and as a result he gave simply his bedroom the simplification a grander style to things, it’s suggestive here of rest or of sleep in general, looking are the picture ought to rest the brain or rather the imagination. Walls are pale violet, floor is red tiles, the wood of the bed and chairs is yellow like butter, sheets and pillows very light greenish. The broad lines of furniture again must express inviolable rest. The pictures on walls and mirror, towels and cloths. The shadows and the cast shadows are suppressed…
The bright vivid colors attracted me to this work; I found it interesting how the artist played off of mostly reds and blues and I liked how my attention was immediately drawn to the center of the painting. All of the people seemed to be involved in the miraculous birth of the Jesus. The greatest aesthetic strength of this painting is its use of vivid color, the aesthetic weakness I found was the lack of the artistic use of shadow. I…
Advertising is the marketing of an idea in ways that encourages and persuades audiences to take some sort of action. In most cases, the action would be to buy a product or service while other are simply to raise awareness. Whatever the case may be, money is poured into advertising every day. Marketing agencies try various ways to convince people to buy their products using different persuasion techniques. After first examining an advertisement, one could analyze how each detail in the ad was specifically designed to affect its audience in a way that convinces them that they need what is being advertised. One would also be able to notice the values and important aspects of a culture through its advertisements. For example, a NyQuil ad from the popular American magazine, Cosmopolitan, shows different ad techniques and American values.…
The bright and vivid background color and the woman’s gesture drew me to this particular piece of art. The brighter color gives people a sense of happiness and that’s why I like it. His painting style is different from the original impressionism, so I want to know the…
The Primus print ad for beer applies appeals to belonging and eye candy, using the myth that drinking is a risk-free activity to catch the young adults’ attention.…
As in Noah’s Ark, there is the evidence of acknowledgment of Egyptian wall paintings which ties into African heritage. The most prominent part of the painting is the story being told through the figures in the foreground. Starting on the left, the story begins with the slave worker in the fields picking cotton. As the story transitions to the right, the figures are no longer hunching over, but are standing tall and willing to fight for their freedom. In the background are the silhouettes of the armies that fought for and against the abolishment of slavery. The center figure, through the use of Art Deco inspired geometric shapes becomes the focal point, is pointing towards the north to lead the southerners to their economic freedom. Lastly, on the right side of the painting, emphasizes the cultural rebirth black Americans found in the…
