Adam Lanza: Worst Criminal Ever
December 14th, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School became the site of the deadliest mass shooting in a grade school with 26 victims, all shot and killed at the hands of Adam Lanza. Lanza shot and killed 20 students age six through seven and six staff members. There are many mixed speculations of Lanza’s motivation, however, it is safe to say he can be considered one the worst criminals ever. Adam Lanza, born on April 22nd, 1992, to Peter and Nancy Lanza, lived in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, approximately 5 miles from Sandy Hook Elementary School. He attended Sandy Hook Elementary and then transferred to St. Rose of Lima

Men are genetically stronger and their hormonal differences lead them to commit more aggressive, violent crimes. Also, men tend to be less socialized and lack verbal skills. Because of this men tend to lean toward aggression to solve problems rather than talking to diffuse conflict (p 43.) This chapter also talks about age and that as a rule of thumb adolescents, at the age of 18, tend to commit more violent crimes than that of other ages because they are psychologically immature (p …show more content…
As chapter two discusses, the early interactions with family and peers shape an individual 's entire life (p 57.) It was clearly known and stated that Lanza was not a well-liked in school, he had not one friend throughout his entire school career. This led to an inability to gain insight from his peers, learn proper relationship conduct, or acquire morals. Coming from a divorced family also shattered his perception of proper relationships. Adding to this, Lanza 's mother removed him from school, furthering his antisocial behavior. His lack of social interaction combined with a broken home life left Lanza alone with his thoughts, aggression, and sadness. All these things made it extremely difficult for him to develop into a fully functioning member of society. It is plausible that he had feelings of resentment towards his mother because she took him from the small social interaction he did have at school. It was apparent he found gratification in performing well in school and may have even felt he found a home within the tech club. Lanza 's antisocial behaviors as well as a perpetual lack of positive relationships within in his early childhood significantly contributed to his criminal

Adam showed an interest in violent video games. Have Adam not seen the violent video games there would have been a good chance that Adam may have not shot up the school. In america it is extremely easy to purchase firearms because of the second amendment. Adam's mother was said to have around 4 firearms in the house at the time. If Adam's mother have had a safe with a lock on the firearms or if there were stricter firearm laws Adam would have never been able to acquire one to shoot the school. Since the guns were easily accessible Adam Lanza succeeded in killing his mother and 26 other students. It was also reported that in the town (New Town) that Adam was living in at the time there were many gun owners influencing the society to also have/use guns. One problem that may have caused Adam to do what he did was enrolling Adam in the I.E.P program. This is believed to be a problem because Adam was not exposed to other children as much not seeing the culture of other children. If Adam was part of a class with more children he may have changed his…

While his family believed he needed help, his mother refused to get him the help that was needed and he had refused to take the medications that were prescribed to him. As he began to get older matters got worse, he isolated himself, he quit talking to his parents, quit leaving his room, he barricaded his room with black trash bags. After he graduated in 2009 outside a traditional class room, he started to isolate himself. While he was in the process of isolating himself, he entertained himself with video games and eventually connected with other people who had an interest in mass shootings on the site Shocked Beyond Belief and named himself “Smiggles”. There he expressed his feelings, his thoughts and his fascination with mass murders; Lanza was also in possession of a list of 500 of the worlds most notorious mass murders. Adam admitted that the human race was out to control him. He blamed his misery not on his mental afflictions or his life choices but society, he felt as if he were…

They had no idea that the tragic event was going to happen. At around 9:30 a.m. the shooter entered the school. The shooter shot through the glass of the double doors to the lobby. The blast of the gun alerted the school that that something was wrong. “Principal Hochsprung and school psychologist Mary Sherlach step out to the hall to see what is going on, and are followed by Vice Principal Natalie Hammond. Hochsprung and Sherlach are killed, and Hammond is injured.” He soon made his way to the first grade classrooms. The first classroom he entered was lauren Rousseau's class. In return I believe that such examples showcase the effect of biology on little boys and little girls. As we know men tend to be more aggressive than women. To go along with these findings, Marc Breedlove; a behavioral endocrinologist at the University of California explains that society may be just as much to blame for the gender blur. “Yes we’re born with (genetic) predispositions, but its society that amplifies them, exaggerates them. I believe that- except for sex differences in aggression. Those (differences) are too massive to be explained simply by society.” (Blum 105) Blum then goes on to talk about how biological aggression in males contributes to most crimes being committed by males. She explains that in Europe and America for every robbery…

Our society has propagated these violent behaviors through strict gender binaries, and fragile masculinity. Although I did not create the term fragile masculinity, I find that it is an accurate way of describing the harmful nature of masculinity, especially within our culture where masculine actions cause not only self harm to the male populace, but to the society as a whole. This is in no way putting down men within society, but rather evaluating the underlying difficulties that are caused by our perception of what a man should and should not be, do, act, etc. Instead of acquainting violence to personal troubles it is more productive to question the true…

Well Lanza did have a friend, until he didn’t. Lanza had a falling out with his one and only friend months before the shooting. They had an argument over a movie and Lanza demanded that they should never speak to each other again. Before their fight Lanza and his friend who remained named, would spends hours at a time playing video games together. They did more than just play video games, and actually created a real friendship. Lanza and his friend “talked about multiple topics, including computers, chimp society, human nature, morality, prejudice, and sometimes about his family. AL told his friend that he had a strained relationship with his mother” (ABC). Lanza would sometimes talk with “his one and only friend” about the topic of mental health or depression. He did tell his friend that mental health issues were not a reflection of the character of a person, but were symptoms of something else going on inside a person (ABC). You can conclude that Adam was defending himself because he suffered from mental illnesses of his own, including Asperger’s syndrome, anxiety, anorexia, and depression. Lanza and his friend also talked about their interest in mass murderers or serial killers. And they both also had a love for horror movies, which was believed to be just a mutual interest, but was really a precursor for horrible things to…

Most people hold the parent of the school shooter responsible for their child's actions. In “After Mass Shootings, do Parents Shoulder Some of the Blame, Kelly Wallace states” “[Adam Lanzas mom] Laurel Harper wrote, that both she and her son suffered from a mental disorder called Asperger Syndrome”(Wallace). Kelly Wallace is trying to use Adam Lanza's mom's story to make it seem as if she is to blame for her son shooting twenty kids and six teachers at Sandy Hook elementary. It doesn't matter that Adam and his mom have a mental disorder, Adam was aware he had this mental disorder and was aware there was treatment and he choose to shoot innocent students and teachers. Other peers are going to try and blame the school because they think the school isn't helping students with bullying and that they're not punishing the children for bullying other students. Schools can only punish children to a certain point, the administration can not force these children to get along. The administration can only try and point them in the right direction and try to teach them to treat others around them with respect. Now everyone is going to want to blame Society and Media only because they think it's easier to blame since everyone blames society for their problems anyways. “In The Social Roots of School Shootings,” Brad…

Gender differences in crime began by focussing on differences in the socialisation of males and females. Boys are encouraged to be tough, aggressive and risk taking. This means they are more disposed to commit acts of violence and take advantage of criminal opportunities when they present themselves to them. Parson’s traced down differences in crime and deviance to the gender roles in nuclear families. Whilst men take the instrumental role of a breadwinner, women perform the expressive role in the home where they take the main responsibility to socialise the children. As girls have access to an adult role model and boys to not it means that, boys are likely to reject feminine models of behaviour that express tenderness, gentleness and emotion and distance themselves by engaging in ‘compensatory compulsory masculinity’ through aggression and anti-social behaviour that lead to acts of delinquency more than women.…
