Adam Sicinski Excuses
“Excuses and How Not to Make Them,” is by Adam Sicinski, which is about the excuses people make on events and circumstances. When the article first starts out it says people give excuses to defend our behavior, but sometimes you have to explain why the person is acting like that. For instance, people that have physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, and developmental disabilities. People usually have to explain why this person is acting this way so I believe that is the only exception to make an excuse. There is no doubt that I did not find this article interesting. It talks about all the excuses I have made in my life and what it means. My favorite excuse in my life and in the story is “I do not know how.” I use this excuse so much,

The story begins with a rebellious tone of voice. The narrator reminisces about his past childhood that was filled with “torn-up leather jackets... drank gin and grape juice juice, Tango Thunderbird, and Bali Hai” (1) (Boyle 77). The narrators voice explains his rebellious times as a young teenage associating himself with objects seen as taboo and unethical. He boasts that he was a bad character and “didn’t give a shit about anything” (Boyle 77). The narrators voice is straightforward and doesn’t show sign of weakness, by only telling…

Oranges, have you ever felt something for someone so much you would do anything for them. I think this story is a good description of this because this person cared so much for this girl that he was trying to go out of his way to do this one thing for her and had to give up the only thing he had. I think this poem can be taken many different ways, but the way I see it is that he cared so much for this girl that he would give up everything for her. I take it as a lesson for people to learn not to be so selfish all the time. This girl wanted this chocolate and he went out of his way for her giving the store clerk one of his oranges that he had left to pay for it because he wanted her to be happy.…

It begins with the dramatic line "Everybody hates me." The author then proceeds to take us on a journey written in the first person from the point-of-view of Tao Symonds, the eleven year old narrator and central character, as he reflects on the previous few months of his life. Tao thinks the whole world is against him. He is suffering pressure from school, his parents and their new partners, as well as from his peers to join in theirescapades and to top it all off, his dog has died. Tao feels confused and angry because his parents, middle aged surfer father, Greg, and his mother, a teacher called Christine, are in the process of a break-up. Tao then lists his troubles and tells the reader of his present dread as he is taken by his mother to meet Mr. Petrovic, a Croatian immigrant, to apologize for something he says is not his fault, at least not entirely his fault. Through the use of past and present tense, Colin Bowles complicates the plot telling us in Tao's view how it all started.…

Also it shows how the parents have raised these children. Each part in the story, someone can put himself or herself in that place. The part with the little girl going to lie in the road seemed very wrong at first, but they were just trying to get the mothers attention long enough to let them inside. All the children wanted during the whole story was for their mother’s love and attention and it took them a while to finally get it. An example in real life with this happening could be, a child getting in a lot of trouble at school.…

The poem starts with a man at the park sitting in his wheelchair in the cold as he waits for it to get dark. In lines 3-5 of the poem, this man is at the park hearing voices of boys and voices of playful youngsters which made him reminisce about the devastating war he went through and then about the good old day before he had lost his legs. He remembered the time how women use to look at him and how flirtatious they were with him before he had lost both of his legs. But now that he was legless he realized that women would pay no mind to him like they did before. He knew that women and other people felt bad for him now.…

The author remembers the kindness of a stranger that he was in a position to share kindness to later on. He equally recalls the wisdom that he shared so as to promote self-esteem among the young people. The story progresses through the author’s life and the last section narrates the author’s entrepreneurial skills and how he eventually ventured into real estate development and later to restaurants business. I really loved how he expresses his personal relationships with these events. I believe that this is very important in teaching other…

To me this poem describes the bottom line of the well known ghetto life. It describes the desperate an what they need other than the usual what they want the money. Without actually telling us all about the seven young men it does tell us about them. The poem tells of men’s fears, their ambitions and who they think they are versus who they really are.…

An excuse is an explanation for why something is the way it is. This almost always involves putting the blame on someone or something that is not involved in the situation. Whereas a reason is an explanation for why something is the way it is, with everyone involved taking accountability for what they contributed to the situation. The big difference between the two is the word accountability. Accountability is being able to take responsibility for your own actions. An example of an excuse as to why somethings failed would be that the landlord was completely unreasonable. If the person where to take accountability instead of making as excuse that would look something like we didn’t sit down and negotiate a good lease. For every excuse that you…

I would recommend this book to another person for many reasons.First the narrator tell her story not as a sad story or in way the reader should feel sorry for her but rather as a story of what she experienced going through depression and overcoming it, making the story come out as a inspiration. The emotions is raw and it mirrors what a depressed person would feel. Her mother think that depression is a choice and it…

I was able to enjoy it and discover the lesson without much work at all.…

    American Song Meaning

    • 627 Words

These lyrics have so much more meaning behind them beyond being lyrics to a song. Slamming doors from fighting with people you care about to constantly being on your cell phone in this era and then not being able to let out what you are feeling so you just silently scream inside your own head. Then going on to having to wiggle around the rules of society to fit in the American ways but that person doesn't want to fake someone they don't want to be. This is similar to Roethke's poem also, in the first line he doesn't just say that his father is drunk but uses symbols such as the whiskey to make the reader look for the meaning. He also uses other symbols such as the waltz instead of the word stumbles to define the way his father walks.…
