Additionally, the 3 lessons that have a major impact on my view of strategy and leadership are: Changes in Technology, Cultural Changes, and Economical changes. Changes in technology keep enhancing the way we think and the way we react as leaders. Leaders are equipped with state of the art facilities and equipment to help assist in the decision making process. One lesson that I personally learned from technology is not to be afraid of it but to embrace it. Being a pilot I am able to utilize our GPS system to navigate from point A to Point B with zero error.
Cultural changes also require leaders to be more flexible and to think outside the box. Being deployed to many countries has taught me to consider the culture of others in making a decision. It’s important for leaders to understand and respect others’ culture in their decision process.
Finally, economical changes tend to make or break organizations. During the last recession I learned to be patience and to strategize my financial decisions. I became a little more conservative and only took low risk opportunities with achievable outcomes. I believe that these lessons have made me a better person and a better leader.
