Some people suggest Jay had a motive to kill Hae because Adnan could’ve possible been flirting with Jay’s girlfriend. Except Adnan had more of a motive to kill Hae. Hae wrote Adnan a letter talking about their breakup which said, “You’re taking this too seriously” (Koenig, “The Breakup). Adnan was so upset after Hae broke up with him that she had to write him a letter to calm himself. Adnan became infuriated with Hae, which would make him a more reasonable suspect than Jay. Also, others may say Jay lied about his timeline since there were many inconsistencies, but really there are too many coincidences that determine Jay knows what happened. Jay told the detectives, “We buried the body in Leakin park” (Koenig, “The Alibi”). The cell phone records showed there were two calls in Leaking park that night from Adnan’s phone. Adnan said he had his phone that night which as too considerable of a coincidence that Jay could be lying since the cell phone calls matched his story. These pieces of evidence establish Adnan with a higher possibility of being the murderer of Hae.
Adnan Syed is guilty in the murder of Hae Min Lee and should be left in jail. With the Nisha call and the Leakin park call matching Jay’s timeline, there is no doubt Jay is a firsthand witness in this case. On top of that Adnan can’t recall anything that happened on the day of the murder, so he appears as if he is the only legitimate suspect of this
