nothing, and in his vileness he becomes so gigantic that no one need be surprised if among our people the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew “ (Hitler). Hearing that Jews were a living representation of the devil was enough for many civilians to support or, at least, be compliant of Hitler and his maniacal plans. He also wrote, “with satanic joy in his face, the black-haired Jewish youth lurks in wait for the unsuspecting girl whom he defiles with his blood, thus stealing her from her people. … Just as he himself systematically ruins women and girls, he does not shrink back from pulling down the blood barriers for others, even on a large scale” (Hitler). This excerpt’s purpose was to frighten women to believe they would no longer be pure if they were with a Jew. Put simply, by using propaganda to create fear in his victims, Hitler was able to take over Europe and get away with persecuting many of its people. Another act of terrorism took place in the United States.
On September 11th, 2001, Al-Qaeda members hijacked planes and flew them into national monuments, such as the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. These attacks murdered thousands of civilians, causing September 11th to forever be dedicated to mourning those whose lives ended. Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind this gratuitous machination, said, "’we believe that the worst thieves in the world today and the worst terrorists are the Americans. Nothing could stop you except perhaps retaliation in kind… As far as we are concerned, they are all targets.’” (“Motives for…”). One can conclude from this quote that Al-Qaeda is foreshadowing that the worse is yet to come and demanding that they will not stop interfering with our country until we surrender. These unsavory threats are made to create fear in American citizens and weaken America, so they can permanently destroy the United
States. The most recent, out of the three attacks, was the Paris bombings. Suicide bombers were strewed around the city in heavily populated areas ready to be set off at any second. The motives for this affront was slightly different from the past two as it has been documented that, “the killing of others is not an unfortunate by-product of a political mission. According to the perpetrators, it is part of a divinely-ordained master-plan which they believe will bring them eternal glory” (Schofield). Put into simpler terms, participants loyal to ISIS performed this attack in hopes of attaining fame and respect from those who they are loyal to in the end. Instead of wanting power in the country they attacked, these nefarious terrorists wanted power in their own land and went to ludicrous extents to obtain it. Overall, when analyzing the Holocaust, the events of 9/11, and the Paris bombings, one can see how terrorists are using their attacks to elicit fear and gain power in the world. While the Holocaust and 9/11 were performed to earn power in the country they attacked, the Paris bombings were carried out to earn power in their homeland. Thankfully, governments today are much stronger compared to those of the past causing terrorists to be incapable of making other countries succumb to their orders.
