Acne, often called pimples, is common and harmless. Acne is inflamed sebaceous glands in the skin that appears as a rash. Often, acne on the face, chest and back where sebaceous glands are larger than in other parts of the body. Acne is not due to poor hygiene. It is possible to get rid of acne, although it may take some time.

People of all ages can get acne, but it is most common in adolescence. There are hormonal changes of puberty that generates more sebum of the sebaceous glands. For most people acne disappears after puberty.
