LIVEABILITY
Grange, Queensland, Australia
Grange is an inner-city residential suburb of Brisbane located approximately 5 kilometers north-west from the Brisbane CBD (Central Brisbane District). The Grange is surrounded by Lutwyche, Newmarket, Stafford, Kedron and Enoggera. The major features of Grange are the three parks Lanham, Emerson and Grange Forest Park. In the grange we also have the Kedron Brooke …show more content…
Creek Catchment. The Grange has many facilities and services available like Wilston State School a few shops but no shopping complexes.
Grange’s topography is fairly hilly when you are around Lanham Park. Most areas are flat in the surrounding streets of my house. Apart from a few hills here and there the grange would be quite easy to cycle, walk etc. In some areas the grass can get fairly long and will make it harder to walk through. That is only near the creek.
The Natural Vegetation in the Grange is quite well maintained. The parks are very well used by the public as they can be used for many things as there are Barbeques, Playgrounds located there and just grass which is always mowed and kept in good condition if you just wanted to kick the footy. One of the main parks in my area is Lanham Parks which has a very bad playground and I library with a café.
The climate of Brisbane is what you would expect as it is known as the Sunshine State. Mostly hot in the summer time are normally around 20 degrees. The hottest months that we have are January, February and December. The coldest months are normally during July, August and September. The average temperature for Brisbane would be approximately 27 degrees Celsius. The average rainfall for Brisbane would be around the 90mm.
I would like to think that the Grange is not as air polluted as Stafford as we don’t have as many cars going through our suburb but the main roads get really congested during the peak hour traffic.
The demographics of the grange precinct is very diverse as there are many 4, 403 people in total with about 2, 135 males and the rest a females with the odd baby being born. In the grange we aren’t as populated as Coorparoo for example.
The facilities and services that the grange has to offer is extraordinary. Just some of the facilities that the granges offers are broad ranging from schools to sporting clubs, parks and public spaces. The two schools that are located Wilston State School (WSS) and St Columba’s Kindergarten. The sporting facilities that the grange has to offer including the Valley’s Rugby League Club, Grange Thistle Soccer Club and the now changed Brothers Rugby Union Club which is now a Pub (club).
The grange seems to be a fairly safe place as there aren’t many crimes in the area apart from the 168 crimes we have had in the last year
The amount of accessible jobs in the granges precinct is very low as there are not very many shopping centres or restaurants nearby that can be. Transportation in the grange is quite high as there are many bus stations and one train station.
The availability and cost of the houses in my area are quite high with 45% of the house in the grange are up for rent. Most of the houses in the Grange are kept in good condition with the odd rent house that looks like I don’t want to live in that. Below you will see a graphs that is showing us the price rise from 2004 – 2014. You can see that the price rise has been increasing as back in 2004 the average price for a house was $400,000 and now it has risen nearly $300,000 in the last 10 years.
The transportation in the grange is always congested and is really hard. I believe that the public transport system is inadequate with only a couple of bus stops located in and around my suburb. If you wanted to catch the train for example you would have to travel into the Wilston Village where you will find the Wilston Station.
The Grange doesn’t have a shopping complex situated in my suburb. If we need to get groceries or anything like that you would have to travel to Stafford (neighbouring suburb). The Grange has a few restaurants like Thai Grange, Crust Pizza, 7 Eleven, Pizza Capers, Hutch Bistro, Celebrations, Shot Espresso, Gecko Property Sales, Pet Shop and A pub. The Granges government is very good with the Mayor Graham Quirk always helping in all sorts of services activities like when scouts deliver the newspapers every Sunday morning. Campbell Newman is the Premier of the Sunshine State (Queensland). The Prime Minister of Australia is Tony Abbott and he is the high performer of them all.
Strengths
The positive aspects of the grange are
• It is rather clean around the area with only the often piece of rubbish near the Grange Library Park Complex
• Another strength about the grange is that we are very community friendly
•
Weaknesses
The negative aspects of the grange are
• There are always hoons speeding down the streets
• There are also many people that graffiti and vandalise the public trains
• The traffic in the morning from 6-8am is usually congested and very hard to get out of our street as some car disobey the sign that says (no right turn from 6-9am) and turn into our street to skip all the traffic
• The grange does not offer a shopping complex or a supermarket.
Opportunities
The future possibilities of the grange are
• The public transport will increase and will be less traffic on the road and fix the problem of congestion on the main road
• Threats
The future risks of the grange are
• That the traffic might die down so much that there might be no traffic on the
road
Environmental Factors Social Factors
Note which kinds of people are affected Economic Factors
Note which kinds of people are affected
Solution 1: improve the bikeways positives • Improving the bikeways would increase the amount of safety
• Would improve activeness of our community
• More people go as groups which cause more people being active • Decreases the cost of bikes and those types of transport negatives • Might cause more accident and injuries on the main roads • Some people might eat more • Costs a lot of money to build and will cause no activeness while they build the bikeway
Solution 2: improve the transport positives • Will cause the amount of cars on the road because more people will be catching the bus or train • Will help the animals and the environment without pollution • Might help people with cost of taxes negatives • There will still be people driving on the road but there won’t be as many • There are no negatives • Might cause people to lose jobs
