Adversity
Adversity is a word I could laugh at, I refuse to let anything steer me away from my path to success. At this point in my life I understand what is important to me, and I know what I want to do in my time here on Earth. The previous words are describing my fairly good life in the present, but my past is a completely different story. At the age of eight years old, my whole future was changed. My father passed away of pancreatic cancer. Honestly, I did not even know what that disease was. I just knew that pancreatic cancer took my father away from me, and I hated it. Adversity means difficulty or misfortune. I felt I was the most unfortunate child on the planet, I knew my dad was sick, but not to the point of death. A boy should have a male …show more content…
My mother kept her rental property and worked hard to give her children a good life, but adversity soon visited my life again. When I was in the sixth grade my mother lost her rental property and her hours at work dramatically slowed down. Things were slowly but surely changing. This is when I started to let adversity get the best of me. In school I always was talkative and got in a little trouble from time to time, but I knew when to stop. I was developing a nasty ‘’ I do not care’’ attitude, authority did not mean as much as it used to. I gradually started getting into more and more trouble. My behavior put more unneeded stress on my mother. It would have been easy to just blame my behavior on the lost of my father, but over time, I realized that the world does not stop for anyone. There are just some things you have to learn from and then move on. I believe God put all these circumstances in my life for a reason. He blessed my mother with a better job, and he also changed me. I started to understand what responsibility is. He blessed me to go to a high school where I could learn more about him. If I did not attend my high school I probably would not see the blessing in my adversity. Now I am not completely over the loss of my father, but I strive for success not only for me, but for him also. I have real motivation I can see every day

    Adversity, it is some sort of obstacle put in front of you in life that you have to overcome. A good example of adversity is in a book written by author Theodore Taylor called The Cay. It is about a young white boy named Phillip and a black man named Timothy and they are in the middle of World War 2 with America, Australia, Curacao and Great Brittan against Germany. They want to leave Curacao so they get onto a ship that is taking them to Miami but it is bombed on the way. As a result of this Timothy and Phillip meet because they happen to get on the same raft that leads them to the small Cay.
