Case: Affiliated HealthSystems Paper

While Affiliated HealthSystems is seeking to improve the performance of their organization, it would be very helpful to regularly conduct assessments of their current organizational performance. Assessments might be planned, systematic and precise or unplanned and implicit. Well-done assessments typically use tools, such as comprehensive questionnaires, SWOT analyses, diagnostic models, etc., along with comparison of results to various “best practices” or industry standards. The following list identifies the needs in the performance measurement system: • Developing a mission statement and objectives; • Enhancing communications within Affiliated HealthSystems so that employees that are not only aware of the objectives and the business plan, but in a position to contribute to their formulation; • Clarifying individual responsibilities and accountability; • Defining and measuring individual performance; • Implementing appropriate reward strategies; • Developing staff to improve performance and career progression for the future. The following are steps that should be taken to identify the measures that should be included in Affiliated HealthSystems performance measurement system: • Business Planning – this is the process that should develop a plan that maps out how various organizational and service targets will be achieved over time. • Quality assurance and benchmarking – this should set to define quality indicators for service and for departments and they should be based on national or state defined and agreed criteria. Quality assurance should be a planned and systematic approach to monitoring, assessing, and improving the quality of health services on a continuous basis within the existing resources. • Competence-based education and training – Allied HealthSystems should ensure support to all staff in order
