First of all, extensive work experience could be one of the similarities that all the three successful people possessed. Currently, Alastair is working extensively with PWC, IAPA and Cheese authority. The work experiences of Yujing are over a range of industries including motor vehicle wholesaling and distribution, not-for-profit entities, clubs and associations. Subsequently, Both of Yujing and Farzad have a keen interest in charity work and have rich volunteer experiences. Yujing is passionate about animal welfare and volunteered her time at Cat Protection NSW and Cancer Council; while Farzad is putting more attention on children, human rights and environment. technical skills, namely accounting and financial skills, auditing skills, internal control and risk management skills. Furthermore, the education background for them is under-graduate degrees or above and two of them obtained a CA certification.
Despite the similarities, differences can also be discovered.
To begin with, the core value of them varies from person to person. The core value of Alastair is around informality and forthrightness due to his nature of work. He tends to focus on friendly, trust and relaxed relationship but the risks and problems would be pointed out straightforward. In comparison, independence may be the core value for Farzad since he is goal-oriented and personal responsible. In terms of Yujing’s core value, which considered to be practicality; as she is adaptable and has the willingness to take challenges and solve problems. Besides, the main duties are distinct from each of them. For instance, Yujing and Farzad’s duties are more concerned with accounting and financial issues whereas consulting and analyzing risks are main job for
Alastair.
Facts have proven that SWOT analysis is regarded as a feasible way to evaluate personal brand and thus may improve and enhance one’s performance (Rampersad, 2008). Facing with changeable study and living environment, it is critical to be adaptable and flexible. Initially, adaptability and flexibility are my strengths which could help me adjust to the unpredictable accounting environment. In the same way, I am confident and enthusiastic about volunteerism, thus I had volunteered for 2015 governor of NSW election and mentored for SIBT’s orientation. Besides, good time management skills and hard working characteristic may be helpful in my accounting career afterwards.
Apart from the strong points, there are drawbacks as well. Firstly, I enjoy being a leader but sometimes I could be too expressive without considering other people’s thoughts. Hence, the benefits and achievements of teamwork could not be optimized. Secondly, I am short-term goal-oriented; which means there is no specific future plan. Only focusing on the present might lead to ignorance of substantial potential risks. Finally, lacking of work experience is another weakness that I need to make a change.
Based on the SWOT analysis, appropriate strategies can be undertaken. Initially, increase the involvement with accounting related groups (i.e. internship or part-time job) is rewarding, as this can give me exposure to firms and career opportunities. It is a beneficial action that not only my work experience can be enriched, but also can help me building social relationships and be more connected with accounting professionals. Another essential action I can take is to practice being a team member. This might provide me with the thinking from the perspective of group member; moreover, listening and adopting group members’ opinions is worthwhile. Ultimately, I can consult with student advisor or attend specific workshops. This could help me make a feasible future plan and refine my communication skills as well.
