Intro- explaining both movies and what happened
A Brief Summary of The Battle of Algiers:
In October 1957, Ali la Pointe, a leader of the Algerian FLN , is trapped by the French in his house in the Casbah. The story then shifts to 3 years earlier when Ali first became involved in the fight for Algeria's independence. Ali had been a thief before this, and joined the guerrilla movement after he was released from prison. The FLN then carry out acts of “terrorism” (which really is just violent attempts to gain their freedom from the French) against the European community in Algiers, such as shooting policemen. The Governor attempts to weaken this FLN uprising by closing off the Casbah (where most of the FLN are in hiding) but that doesnt stop

In retaliation, an FLN leader sends three Arab women out of the Casbah dressed as Europeans to plant time bombs in 3 seperate popular locations, which in turn kills several Europeans and sends the French a message that the FLN will not give in easily and do in fact have strength. By 1957 the French bring in the 10th Paratroop Division headed by Colonel Mathieu. Mathieu uses methods of torture to force captured terrorists to give up the names of FLN leaders. When the FLN orders an 8-day general strike while the United Nations debates the whether to get involved in the crisis, Mathieu intensifies his efforts to capture group leaders. By the time the United Nations has decided not to intervene, Mathieu has killed all of the FLN leaders except Ali la Pointe. Soon Ali’s address is discovered, and he and three others, including a young boy, are trapped in his hide-out behind the wall of his bedroom and eventually killed by the French. For 3 years, up until 1960, everything goes quiet. Then one day, without any warning, rioting begins and thousands of Algerians tear through the streets …show more content…

An additinal purpose of the book was to pay homage to all military vets and to show the sacrafices they and their families faced. Taya (Chris’s wife) exclaimed, “He felt the constant need to serve his country, he felt that the government spend hundreds of thousands of tax dollars on him to become a hardcore killing machine that he should at least make it worth there money as well as the patriotism that comes by being in the service.” This shows how Kyle would felt about serving for your country, so he took these feeling and incorporated it into the novel. He did this to help readers further understand the sacrafises that they have to face to be in the SEAL’s.…

The opening scene in this movie has the same effect on the viewers as ‘Cache’, anxiety and discomfort. Immediately, we see a man who appears to be a prisoner of the French military. They order him to put on one of their uniforms and to expose Ali La Pointe’s hideout spot. The man refuses and tries escaping, but gets hit. This sets the tone for the rest of the movie, as it is obvious that there will be a confliction between the French military and Algerian citizens. In the next scene, we see the commander speaking to several people hiding inside a wall, and that is where we meet Ali La Pointe. He is asked to come out from behind the wall, weaponless, and to surrender. A couple minutes later, we see Ali’s attempt at escaping the police, which was almost successful until he gets tripped by a young Frenchman. Rather than picking himself up to avoid arrest, Ali resorts to violence and headbutts this young man. His actions create chaos in the streets, and many people get involved. Again, unnecessary and avoidable conflict. The rest of the scene lists all of Ali’s criminal past, and we learn that he is a violent person based off his record. A few minutes later, we see one of Ali’s fellow Algerians violently getting beheaded. This type of terror is seen throughout the entire…

Chris wasn’t just a Navy SEAL, he was a father, husband and a brother. However, in the course of his career he sometimes forgot about those he loved. This made his family life difficult. After serving our country for four tours and a confirmed one hundred sixty kills Chris came home. Wanting to go back, but his wife told him she would leave him if he went, he decided to stay. After writing his book, he felt an urge to help other war veterans with his programs. Chris loved guns so much he wanted to take one thousand teachers in his home state and do the hand gun carries and safety permits to protect the students of Texas. He also opened up shooting ranges, and workout areas to help veterans with ptsd. Many people thought that was a bad idea, but Chris wanted to do something no one else has done to try and help his fellow soldiers. Mark Thompson said in the Times magazine that “Kyle had created the Fitco Cares Foundation in late 2011 with the goal of helping veterans overcome their struggles through exercise—something he had done when he returned home, though he said he didn’t have PTSD.” Now when a good hearted person comes to mind Chris Kyle isn’t the first people think of, but taking everything he has done for America and disabled vets he has to have a good…

Chris shows multiple intrusion symptoms associated with the war, like dreaming about it and flashbacks. In one particular scene of the movie a barking dog, that is bothering a child, triggers a response from Chris and he is stopped by his wife screaming to stop and that snapped him out of it. One thing I did notice in the movie, that is different from the DSM-5, is instead of him avoiding the war or memories because it triggers a response he seems as though he is obsessed with it, like he can't get enough. He wants to think of it. He wants to watch it.…

That is a ‘True American Hero’. Kyle said, “You don’t think of the people you kill as people. … They rule by putting terror in the hearts of innocent people.” He would often say that he did not consider himself to be a hero, that he was a regular guy in the right spots at the right times. Interviews with his relatives only show the determination that Chris Kyle had. Many of them say that he was quick to figure out issues and wanted to solve them, and quick to defend the ones he cared about.…

An elderly person in a nursing home, who can barely understand a breakfast menu, is asked to sign a form consenting to be killed. Is this right or wrong? Assisted suicide also known as euthanasia is defined as “the practice of ending someone’s life in order to release incurable suffering.” (“Euthanasia” 711) Many people who seek help in ending their lives have an agonizing disease and are in great pain. It may also occur when incurably ill people ask their physician or friend and or relative to put them to death or allow them to die. Some believe medical practitioners may cause harm to patients if they are given high doses of pain-killing drugs that could cause death. Euthanasia is categorized in different ways: voluntary, non-voluntary, active and passive (involuntary). Active euthanasia is the injection of lethal drug. “Active euthanasia involves direct action by a physician or caregiver to induce death in a patient.” (“Euthanasia” 711) Passive euthanasia takes place when a physician with holds or with…
