Almeada Case Study
As Almeada case worker I would have a lot of emotions handling this case. The first emotion I would feel is sympathy. I think that what this family is going through is terrible and I would feel sorry for them.
I would feel very determined. I would feel like I have to make a difference by helping this family any way
I can. I think that I would also feel a little angry. I would feel angry to the fact that the mother is leaving the baby home by itself at times and that she should know better. They could also help her with HEAP to pay for her gas and electric bills if there are any. Starting here would be the best place for her to start. The next agency that I would refer her to is WIC program. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.
This is an excellent program because it will help Almeada with buying milk and other nutritional foods and also coach her on what to feed her daughter and how many times a day. The WIC program also offers many classes that have to do with nutrition. I think that this a good program because this family is not eating the way that they need or should be. There are a few non for profit organizations that come to mind for this case. The first one is Wilson Commencement Park. They provide independent housing on their premises.
