We were trapped. A large, horrific creature loomed over us in the dark alleyway east of the Market, rain pouring down over our heads. I gritted my teeth in anger. It wasn’t fair. First the monarchy sent creepy creatures (like the one that we were confronting,) waged war on us and slaughtered our parents and millions of others, then they tried to banished us to an unknown, unexplored area where you’ll be devoured by a mutant or a rabid wolf. Now they were going to kill us too. I hated that small nagging voice in my head that was constantly telling me that I’m a useless piece of crap. That kept telling me that I always needed other people to fight …show more content…
Sick of running away.
Sick of being useless. This time there was no turning back.
My rage was all that was left, red spots danced across my eyes, the next thing I knew the Creature was hissing, its tentacles curled up in protest .
“Run!” I screamed, starting towards the opening of the alley, the creature stirred, starting to make sense of what had happened.
“graaaagh tsdf!” The creature hissed as it lunged towards me, trapping me once again. Frederick and Minerva stopped at the just at the exitway of the alley, just an inch away from freedom.
“graaaaaagh typhina sadf th!” The creature snarled while threatening to take my head.
They slowly and grudgingly trudged over to the creature. I tried to signal them to not listen but the creature roughly pinned my hands behind my back causing me to yelp in pain. Suddenly Minerva lashed out in anger. I didn’t know what snapped. Her hope? Her anger? Her sanity? She took the form of a fox, white fur dripping in the rain falling on us and tackled the Creature clawing at it’s face. I was free.
“Come on let’s go!” Frederick barked shoving the dazed creature out of the …show more content…
I cocked my head sideways and listened closer. “Ribbit...Ribbit.” the frogs soft mellow chirp was joined by more and more frogs until the entire pond was smothered by a symphony of soft croaks of the peeping frogs.
Without warning, I heard Frederick call my name. “Yuki!...Yuki!” The chorus abruptly ended and the frogs skittered back into the pond with an audible Splash!
Fredericks face popped through the reeds.
“We’re going to the bakery again tonight.” He declared, his voice firm.
“Are we out of food again?” I inquired.
Frederick sighed.
“Yes, and Minerva’s starting to get hungry.”
My stomach growled, I was starting to get hungry too.
“Okay, I’ll get ready.” I stated, snatching my jet blackmidnight black backpack.
“Also, Don’t forget to practice your transformation,” Frederick reminded me. “I’m testing you after we come back from the bakery.”
I groaned. I HATED practicing my transformation so much. I didn’t understand why I ever needed to practice it. We were safe and hidden away from the monarchy, but Frederick always said to be “better safe than sorry.”
Frederick’s head disappeared behind the reeds and I went back to
