A key and well known suicide which lead to schools changing their code of conduct is the Amanda Todd Case in 2012.

Despite the efforts by the school districts to improve the code of conducts, it is very difficult to improve the code of conduct due to the fact that sometimes digital pileon goes into effect. When a picture or video on social media is posted, it can receive tens, hundreds, thousands or millions of views, likes, comments, retweets, and snapshots. For schools, it is difficult to improve the code of conduct due to the fact that those millions and millions of comments are students who agreed on the negative point of view and which can take hours and hours of searching who commented on the incident. Also when schools finally find who was part of the event, the people could have created fake accounts to protect themselves from getting into trouble and so therefore schools will take more and more hours to find the people involved in the event. Then, when the schools find who was the offenders, it would take hours and hours of questioning. Soon after schools expel students unless they are in juvenile hall, students can still elaborate and comment on social media about the event or the victim and the process of investigating the victims for schools continues again. All of this caused is by social media being permanent. In other words, when people post a video or a picture in social media even if it is deleted, people can still find ways to receive these posts through hacking, screenshooting, downloading, and etc. Besides even if schools continuously update, update, and update again their code of conduct, hackers and others will still continue to perform the same tasks again and again unless if the hackers are locked and put into prison, jail or etc. So henceforth, it can be sometimes very difficult to update the school code of conduct due to the fact that digital pileon takes into effect, the process of finding the individuals involved in the negative posts can take hours, days, months, and years due to the fact that people can create fake accounts to protect themselves, and even if schools find the people that were involved, due to social media people will continue to perform the same actions unless the people are in jail and have their phones confiscated.
Due to cyberbullying and online harassment becoming a major issue and due to major concerns on how Madera High School’s code of conduct is outdated, two-well known students Jacob Schroeder and Michael Stanford have proposed a new code of conduct that will ensure safety and stability at the school. The code of conduct follows seven types of harassments online. The definition of cyberbullying is the use of technology to repeatedly harm or harass other people in a deliberate manner. The definition of online harassment is sending hateful or threatful messages to a person you know or might not know. The definition of outing is when someone publishes online about another person’s personal information such as name, address, security, and phone number. The definition of victim blaming is when the victim of a crime or any wrongful act is held entirely or partially responsible for the harm that happened to them. The definition rolling and masquerading is making a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of someone or eliciting an angry response from them. The definition of exclusion is the act of intentionally singling out a person or group then subsequently leaving malicious comments to the person they single out. The definition of digital pile on is when a person solicits an involvement of other people online. To combat online harassment, the protagonists have suggested this code of conduct in order to deconstruct bullying at Madera High School.
