newsworthy because it prevents bullying before it happens, being kind makes a person slightly happier, or being two years old Silus Johnson, who suffers from a rare disease that prevents him from walking, have his local Home Depot built him a walker. Bullying in the world has escalated a lot through the years.
Whether it's cyber bullying on a social media or face to face bullying, bullying is never okay. The teachers in Chocachatti Elementary noticed the bullying and decided to put an end to it. In a recent article it states “What I see is that kids begin to recognize and prevent situations before bullying can start” (Ritchie). As teachers and counselors talk about bullying more and more throughout the student's learning environment, they become more aware of what is happening when someone is getting bullied. Famous celebrities have used their platforms as well to promote anti-bullying. They either are a strong advocate for anti bullying or they write a song about bullying. Selena Gomez is a well known artist both acting and singing wise. She used her platform and wrote a song called’ Kill Em With Kindness’. A lyric from the states “ Put out the fire before igniting” meaning that before the situation becomes more violent we need to stop it. If someone is getting bullied then that means that he or she should report it before it gets
worse. Another reason why’ Acts of Kindness’ are newsworthy is because they make a person slightly happier. Whether is helping a family member or a complete stranger it gives that person a satisfaction. In The article, “Being Kind to Others Does Make You ‘Slightly’ Happier”, Dr. Oliver Scott Curry states, “We are happy to help family, friends, colleagues, community members, and even strangers, under some conditions. This research suggests people do indeed derive satisfaction from helping others.” Not only does it give a satisfaction to the person that they help, but it also gives them a positive impact on others. Their attitude gives off on others and others will help other people. It’s a chain reaction when one individual starts to take matters into their own hands and change others output and they begin to do kindness matters. Even in St. Petersburg, FL, Katie Haber says “I think it’s important to be kind to others- treat others the way you want to be treated...”. When they help others, they give off an effective attitude that others will want to do the same. In the news there are always uplifting articles about people helping those in need. In Richland Hills, Texas, two years old Silus Johnson suffers from an extremely rare disease called Norrie disease. Norrie disease is when one cannot walk on their own and have to depend on others to help them move around. His grandpa decides to build Silus his own walker because “ it was impossible for him to use traditional walkers sold in stores”(Clabough). When the workers heard what Silus’s grandfather had planned for him, assitant manager, Matthew Spencer and co-workers Eric Bindel and Chris Wright dropped everything and assisted in helping. Bindel felt it was his calling, claiming to have a two year old son at home and just acted. They were even generous enough that they built the entire walker for free. Once completed Silu’s mother, Jessica stated “The walker has given her son a sense of independence that he had not been able to fully experience prior to the walker”. It is not every day people like Matthew Spencer, Chris Wright and Eric Bindel are reported on important news outlets. Hearing an inspiring story like Silus Johnson puts a person with a mood that one cannot describe. Wright, Spencer, and Bindel give everyone that there are still people wanting to help others and make someone feel better about themselves. One may argue that acts of kindness are least newsworthy because people should be informed on what is going on in reality. They need to be informed on what is going on the outside world. There are wars going on, kids not having food, and disease outbreaks going on all over the world so acts of kindness are at the bottom of news outlets to broadcast. But hearing about a group of students raising enough money to donate it to a local food bank inspires others to do the same. People should not always have to hear about wars or disease, they who should hear something positive once in awhile. They should hear about the charismatic workers at Home Depot wanting to help build a walker for young boy cannot walk on his own. There are numerous research done about how being kind and helping one another helps one become happier. The most newsworthy topic is ‘Acts of Kindness’ because it prevents bullying, being kind makes a person slightly happier, and a local Home Depot worker took matters into their own and help build a walker for a boy who suffers from a rare walking disease. In society, bullying has sadly worsened in the past year. Whether it’s verbal or physical, bullying takes a toll on everyone. Schools take it upon themselves and have a week dedicated to being kind to one another. News topics such as kindness are also so have an impact on a person's mood. Being kind and helping strangers have been proven to make one slightly happy. A local Home Depot even helped a family build a walker for a kid who suffers from a rare walking disease. "I prayed for them and I prayed God would bless their families because they definitely blessed ours," ( Johnson, Jessica). Simple things can change a person’s mood. Hearing a news report about ‘Acts of Violence’, deadly disease outbreaks or war can put someone in a downcast mood because outlets are always reporting the same news every day. Hearing something uplifting can make someone happy and help someone else out. Always help someone out, that act of kindness can change someone's day.
