Even though we are all technically immigrants besides the Native Americans, illegal and legal immigrants are just getting out of control. As Brimelow states, “ However, the fact is that we—foreigners—are, in some sense, all Americans now, just as Jefferson said everyone had two countries, his own and France, in the 18th century. That is why we are here, just as the entire world flocked to Imperial Rome. The trick the Americans face now is to be an empire in fact, while remaining a democratic republic in spirit. Avoiding the Romans' mistake of diluting their citizenship into insignificance may be the key.” I understand they are looking for a better life and there is nothing wrong with that but there has to be a harder way to become a citizen, just don't let it be that easy. African Americans or Blacks were forced here. I believe the world would be so different if everybody just stayed in their own area. I believe Africa would be one of the leading nations today but do to immigration they are one of the poorest countries.
There is not enough jobs in America to share with illegal immigrants. There is not enough federal funding. The government needs to use some of that funding for immigrants to college students who are trying to better America and not use up all the tax payers money. As a college student watching how a person who was just born in America but their parents can't even speak English, the official language in America, get full paid scholarships to college and I can't even be considered for a scholarship. How is that a way to treat your own citizen. I also feel like if your going to live in a country learn their language. Only in America will they put Spanish and English on things but Spanish is not our language. Peter Brimelow states, “For example, in 1990 almost one child in every 20 enrolled in American public schools either could not speak English or spoke it so poorly as to need language-assistance programs.” Do you think if we went to Mexico they would do the same? No they would not compensate English into their language like the United States. Peter Brimelow states that, “Current law is interpreted as requiring schools to educate such children in their native language. To do so, according to one California estimate, requires spending some 65 percent more per child than on an English-speaking child. And not merely money but, more importantly, teacher time and energy are inevitably being diverted from America's children.” One has to understand that if America wants to be great, and some wonder why we have foreign doctors and not American doctors well here is your answer. Just because America's education is free, immigrants take advantage of that. Helping Immigrants is not going to stop poverty. Many of the other countries in the world poverty level is rising faster than the immigrants are coming here. What the humanitarians need to do instead of taking immigrants and moving them to America from other countries, they need to help them in their own country. Trying to immigrate all these people isn't good for the American people looking for jobs. If there was not immigrants here to do these jobs for little or less than nothing then the people would have to pay Americans the wages they deserve for the job. America has people out here who lost their job or got laid off but then to come and find out that the job they have been applying for has been giving to an illegal immigrant. As Americans we should want to help our own first but no we care more about helping others instead of helping home. Yes, it is wonderful to help people but keep them in their own country and help them. I feel like the government does immigration in order to keep the other countries poverty level high and make America seem like the place to want to live. Immigration is definitely not necessary, but as selfish Americans we can't help anybody's economy to become better than ours then nobody would want to live in America and try to go to other countries. Peter Brimelow explains, “The United States has lost control of its borders—in every sense. A series of institutional accidents, of who birthright citizenship is just one, has essentially robbed Americans of the power to determine who, and how many, can enter their national family, make claims on it—and exert power over it.” America needs to gain back control of the border because it would stop a lot of unnecessary immigrants When talk about healthcare nobody wants to work on somebody who not insured. Most of the time immigrants are not insured, so when they get hurt and our not insured somehow they still get took care of. An American with the same problem gets turned away until the come up with some kind of insurance. Immigrants should not get more benefits in this so called wonderful country of America than its own people do or can. Immigrants are smart too, they take every advantage of the governments dumb system and they come out doing just as good or better than our own American citizens. Brimelow says, “The health care crisis. Americans have been told repeatedly that 30 million to 40 million people in the country have no health insurance at any one point in time. Typically, nobody seems to know how many are immigrants. But immigrants certainly make up a disproportionate share—particularly of the real problem: the much smaller hard core, perhaps 6 million, that remains uninsured after two years.” Just because a person was born in America does not make them American. A person is whatever there mother/father is. They need to Amend the Constitution, especially the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside,” as Peter Brimelow also states in his passage. I have to agree with Brimelow the 14th Amendment is very broad. Peter also explains, “ The 14th Amendment was passed after the Civil War in an attempt to stop Southern states denying their newly freed slaves the full right of citizens. But the wondering is general. So it has been interpreted to mean that any child born in the United States is automatically a citizen. Even if its mother is a foreigner. Even is she's just passing through.” This definitely needs to be changed, because if I was a foreigner trying to move here, I would just have my child in America. America should reconsider a new policy. Immigration is getting out of control. It does not matter if it is illegal or legal immigration. Brimelow states that, “It may be time for the United States to consider moving to a conception of itself more like that of Switzerland.” Immigration needs to be taking care of. Sooner or later being an America will not mean anything. Being an American would just become insignificant if America continues to let immigration get out of control.
