The video that I believe was the most useful and most informative was called “American Civil War: History, Key Figures, and Battles” posted by WatchMojo.com on October 20, 2011. I liked this video best it goes into depth of historic battles and their significance. Knowing the events of the iconic battles, the turnout, and how each side was affected, helps me differentiate between each battle as well as remember them.
This video also was well informing because it introduced to me key figures of the Civil War and their role in war such as General Robert E. Lee leading the Confederacy to numerous victories as well as Abraham Lincoln …show more content…
supporting the North.
Another reason was that I also got a sense of events happening during the war, not involving battles, such as Lincoln’s deliverance of the Gettysburg Address. This showed me that although Southern and Northern states were in a war against each other, amazing individuals such as Lincoln wanted the United States to once again be united in a true sense.
Most importantly, this video was useful and informative because it gave it not only touched on the subjects of events leading to the civil war, but things that happened afterward that also made it into our history textbooks. Such as Lincoln’s death and the Reconstruction Era, which aimed to rebuild the country. The Civil War was tragic and devastating, but it leads to a greater country in which there were no sides but a country united. Something of which I learned while watching this video.
The video I did not like was a video known as “Civil War in Four Minutes: The War Between the States,” posted by Civil War Trust on July 7, 2013.
What influenced my opinion on this video was because the narrator failed to go in depth and explain the details of the Civil War.
In fact, more than half of the video consisted of him explaining dates that happened and lead to the Civil War. The causes of the Civil are extremely important, however I wanted more details on the battles, the generals, what happened after, and how it affected the United States. Those details highlight exactly why the Civil War made our country how it is today. This video consisted more of dates than details of the actual civil war itself. However, now I realize that if I wanted a little more depth of the Civil War, it would have been in my best interest to watch a longer
video. Overall, I am happy with what I learned about the Civil War. I find it very interesting to learn about America’s history and how established and how far we as American citizens have come despite its causes being wars, a depression, and even great sicknesses, and so on.
