"What Were Some Causes of American Imperialism?" Reference. N.p., n.d. Web. 09 Jan. 2017.
The U.S desired for economic gain and a belief that a country's values were superior and the desire to spread religion while the effects of Imperialism were increased
in infrastructure in the countries being explored and a loss of identity for their citizens. People thought that The Imperialism was beneficial towards the U.S because of trade & goods, spread of freedom, and self-government. In my opinion, those areas of the world that the U.S. dominated, would have been dominated by another imperialistic country if the U.S. had not dominated them. For example, if the US had not annexed Hawaii, the British would have. Or if the US had allowed the Philippines to become independent, more likely that some other country would have taken those islands. Eventhough if that were to happen, a big shift of events would have changed and the U.S would have not been in power afterall but still would have been wealthy, when all they were desiring for was to get wealthy off of those locations. What I think they did not understand was the fact that Imperialism created social and economic inequalities and divided previously peacefully co-existing segments of society.
