I find it fascinating to see that people surrender their rights with little persuasion as if they do not understand their importance. I do not comprehend how this would not be an area of concern for any citizen of the United States. The rights which we are guaranteed to us in the
Constitution are not being granted to all who are entitled to them. Through the persistence of teachers and parents, I have gained an understanding of the importance of my rights allow me to speak, express, and assemble when I desire. I recognize the privilege that I have to practice these rights without persecution and I understand this is a luxury that many people are not rewarded. However, this luxury is being modified and reduced. It is intriguing to see how neglectful most people are towards this knowledge. Recent events have shown how quickly and willing people are to give up their rights while others who understand their importance fight for them to survive. I find it captivating to see that people will exchange their rights in order to guarantee a falsified safety.
A common and well-known example of these restrictions lies in gun control. People encourage these restrictions because they create the possibility that criminals cannot obtain firearms; however, those restrictions only restrict those who obey the law because criminals outsmart the law. The lack of comprehension within our country is disheartening as it shows that there are those who do not know what their stance is and, therefore, make uneducated assumptions that are skewed based on the common belief of those around them.
To avoid obtaining false information like the select individuals around me, I rely on resources that are reliable and align with my beliefs. When I want to learn more, I start by talking with my parents who provide insight, commonly bias, that goes along with what we believe in. I will then look to my teachers who are very learned in their subjects and through them, I gain an additional viewpoint about the factual evidence. The final step is looking on the internet databases found on the library’s website where I am able to avoid falsified information and obtain hard facts.
I find my freedoms and protecting the freedoms of others intriguing; however, I recognize the value of understanding the perspectives of others and why they make the decisions they do. Gathering this information relies on locating reliable sources that will accurately represent the broad opinion of the population.
