An Analysis Of Mike Rose's Blue Collar Brilliance

Many People go to School and they are hoping to get an excellent job in any field they choose because that’s what they want. They think that on desire that they can achieve anything they want. Yet Mike Rose, in Blue-Collar Brilliance, explains how his mother, “Rose Meraglio Rose, Shaped her adult identity” (1033). She was not the only one, his Uncle Joe also had to learn a different way of identifying himself in life. All of this was done through a medium called, Work.
High school is a big part of people’s lives. They go to learn to socialize and to figure out where they fit in the world. Mike roses mother had to take a different rout. She had quit school at an early age to help with the tough times in their family. She took a job waiting tables
at a dinner. It was a jo with a lot of demands on emotional, physical, and mental parts of people’s lives. Mike often remembered him and his dad sitting in the dinner waiting for his mother’s shift to be done.
Mike’s mother didn’t just Show up to work to get paid. She came to do a job. “Rosie took customers’ orders, pencil poised over pad…. She walked full tilt through the room carrying with pates stretching up her left arm” (1034). She worked with purpose, giving all she had, into the job she had to do. While I was working at a burger joint, I noticed a big difference in the attitude in different workers and how fast they got a raise.
The attitude that Rosie shows is the type of attitude that people look for in a work place. You work, seems simple but many people want to be paid to stand around. When people stand around and do nothing then the company does poorly. This effect pay checks and price of products and services. Not only that but you succeed in doing something. I don’t mean the job but you start applying yourself to a new skill and you develop yourself that is what work is you put yourself in, then you get a better self out with a pay check Mike’s Uncle Joe decided to leave school like Rosie, and started working for the railroad. After switching between many different jobs, he landed a job at a paint and assembly line where he worked for thirty-three years.
What Joe learned
Blue collar brilliance is a great article about work ethic and more than one path to an education. It is primarily focused on the writer and his family. There are many people out there that do not fit with in this view of Blue-Collar workers. The big point in all of this is if we work we can learn we can succeed. Mike Rose’s article is great to show those getting a job for the first time what can happen if they work there are many places that hire new workers and the worker just sit around not really working. This is not good for must companies. This is a problem with just wishing for a dream.
