An Essay About My American Dream
Everyone’s America is different. My version of America is Detroit, but that doesn’t apply to everyone. America is like a little sister. Sometimes I love it, while other times it only causes me frustration. Generally, it is a bittersweet thing, but it becomes something I learn to live with. Many things have changed since Martin Luther King was assassinated. As African Americans, we’ve progressed and strived bit by bit for equality. As Americans, we’ve regressed and only created a negative persona attached to our name. If I could think of America a little differently, America wouldn’t just be great. America would be rational(logical), considerate, and kind.
I have a dream that one-day America will be a rational unit. We will be able to identify our enemies and react appropriately. Often, when there are issues involving other countries, we shy away from it. Or, we will react in a violent manner. The America I envision would assess all options before acting upon impulse. America today is a selfish America. Whatever option keeps us the safest is our first …show more content…
We want everything to ourselves, and get upset if we don’t get it. There was even a race to the moon with Russia. While, initially, it is exciting, it becomes tired after a while. The United States has just become a little too competitive. The America I envision is a kind America. It is the kind of America that would let someone else have the shine for once. America’s need for a great reputation sometimes overshadows its better qualities. The America I envision has a heart.
In general, America is a decent America. It’s just that America has a long way to go before it is even partially a perfect America. That’s okay, because it is normal. No country is perfect, but we can strive to be it. We should strive less to be perfect, and strive more to be a rational, considerate, and kind America.
