Among all of the current conflicts that have arisen in the United States, minor conflicts such as the issue of U.S citizens not respecting the American flag anymore, should also be addressed. The American flag stands for justice, purity, perseverance, and freedom; all of which this country has paid a large price to earn. At the cost of many lives, freedom was won, yet few people acknowledge this. It is uncertain whether or not people actually realize the meaning behind the flag. Some would say it means nothing, that it is just a piece of fabric. But, it is not merely what the flag is, but what it stands for. There have been times, when during the National Anthem, that people have refused to stand, cross their hearts, or remove hats from their heads. So many people gave their lives in order to secure this country which we so carelessly disrespect. There have been disabled war veterans who have gotten out of their chairs, to stand and cross their hearts, when this meaningful song plays, because they understand the importance. In some more severe instances, such as 11/9/16, people have burnt the U.S flag. Little do these people know, that that flag represents why they are free to do such things. …show more content…
America reminds me of the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell. Before the American revolution, people in America dreamed of freedom, dreamed of not being ruled by a monarch. After the American revolution, and freedom was finally theirs, it was just like when the animals had finally rebelled against the humans. At first, the animals were noble, respected the rules, and respected their rebellion. As the book goes on, the rules are forgotten, and respect for what they went through to rebel was also forgotten. America has forgotten what we went through to gain independence, now it means nothing
