Kuwadzana 2 is a residential location situated 14 km west of the city of Harare. It is considered one of the most strategic residential by virtue of its location. For instance it is surrounded by the residential areas of Westlea,Mufakose,Warren Park and Dzivarasekwa which make it the most accessible residential area due its centrality.Because of this and other factors the student opted to survey the extent of household choices in choosing Kuwadzana with particular emphasis on Kuwadzana 2.
OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this essay paper is to highlight the various factors that households in Kuwadzana consider in making choices on residential location of choice. The survey also focused on the discussion of the travel behavior from the perspective of the household and how it assist in the decision making process of where to move
LITERATURE REVIEW.
According to Lancaster 1966 understanding of urban location requires greater understanding of the activities which households undertakes as well as the housing system itself. Housing is defined by Dewar 1994 as a bundle of good that constitute different elements that can only be consumed in its unitary form. In essence housing as a good is different from any other good in that it is composed of different characteristics that must be satisfied for it to be consumed and the fact that housing takes up much of the household income makes it necessary for careful considerations to be made before any consumption starts to take place. However literature from Alonso (1964) highlighted that household chooses between accessibility and quality of housing as measured in part by the space consumed by any particular house in his access space trade off model. In contrast Muth 1969 tried to specify the housing elements by viewing commuting costs in any location as given and therefore deducted from income before the household make the choice to move.
