Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). From the moment Hamilton reaches the board, an inexplicable connection sparks. Bethany said “I’ve tried to explain why I feel the way I do and it's impossible. Only surfers get it: the rush, the addiction, the way it stirs your heart, plays with your head, and tortures your body (Hamilton 119) .” Although at times there were downsides, being the youngest of three and the only girl had its benefits. She always engaged in similar activities and the outcome was that she learned to be very ambitious and was always driven to be the…

We all should notice that no matter what was going on, Anne was seeing the joy and good in not only life, but in people as well. She showed us who she really was through this life changing experience. Anne demonstrates that we should keep our head held high when we face the struggles of life. If Anne Frank can see the good in things while being persecuted, I know I can. I have learned from the Holocaust that no matter who you are, what you look like, your race, religion, or anything you can think of, we are equal. Now you are probably thinking, “shouldn’t she already know that?” The Holocaust has helped me to see it in a different way. It also showed me how cruel and selfish humans can be and how cruel and selfish I can be. A lesson all humans should know is that we are one. We are equal. Anne once said, “‘I don’t think of all the misery, but the beauty that still remains,’”…

In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank”, there's a sense of symbolization when Anne writes. For instance, Anne symbolizes faith when referencing the Star of David in her writing. Goodrich writes, “ I know. I know. But after all, it is the Star of David, isn’t it?”[pg. 709]. The symbolization of what Anne writes about is breathtaking because she symbolises the Star of David as being a sign of faith. Even though it is not stated that it does, it is clear that she has a strong belief in the Star of David. In addition to, there is also another mighty word that has symbolism, Nazi or Hitler. Goodrich writies, “ As my family is Jewish, we emigrated to Holland when Hitler came to power.”[pg.703]. Hitler was known as one of the greatest Nazi’s with…
