Columbus’ the First Letter to Luis de Santangel was written on February 17, 1493. His curiosity led him to discover so much of what the world has to offer. In his First Letter to Luis de Santangel, he seemed very joyous, energetic, and grateful for his ability to conquer and secure many small islands and their villagers. No circumstance ever could or would require such extreme treatment of other human beings. To be treated as the excrement of animals, not even worthy of the care given a beast, is in no way tolerable or acceptable. I am ashamed to be categorized as in the same faith with people claiming to be Christians acting like the Spaniards did; “the Indians were treated in a horrific way—enslaved, starved, tortured, hunted down and massacred in huge numbers.
