Analysis Of Disney/Pixar
I am currently interning with Disney/ABC Television Group in the research department. With every internship that I have had, I make it a requirement to network as much as I can. I have always been interested in the international side of marketing. However, taking this course has opened my eyes and interests even more. I did an informational with someone from the Walt Disney Studios in the international department, in which I found interesting. I enjoy Disney movies as I am a huge fan of the company. Disney is such a marketing machine and their success wasn’t just by luck or spoon fed. In order to keep the company to continue to be successful they need to stay true to their culture as well as respect the values and norms of their overseas counterparts. …show more content…
These are films that I can talk about with my family members in Colombia. As I am growing my career I am starting to learn about all the marketing implications that go on with a movie release. Disney/Pixar is known for making family-friendly movies. This is something that is very important for their culture. So when they market a movie overseas their whole marketing team has to research whom they are targeting. This will change the way they market the over all movie to even a simple movie poster. For example with Marvel’s release of Thor in Japan, they need to have a different movie poster. In Japan, women are usually the ones whom decided to the movie or which movie the family is going to watch. This tend to be because women have more money to splurge for extra activities. They tend not to learn towards action movies or male figured advertising. So, in Japan the billboards/ad that were released were with the female main character. Even though this female is not the main character of the movie. Also, in Moana the advertisement had to change to in many countries to not have Maui be shirtless. Also, in Italy the movie wasn’t called Moana but Oceania, to avoid confusion of a very famous actress called Moana from Italy. Knowing your target also helps to have somewhat of a sales forecast. For example, Black Panther is/was not expected to perform that well in Korea. This is due to the racism …show more content…
She told me that it is hard due to the time difference but since Burbank is the main office, people tend to be a bit more on the Burbank schedule. She told me that after a while you get to know which countries are more responsive and how to communicated with them. For example, Europe is more strict with the work/life balance. So once they are done for the day, there is pretty much no way to reach them. Also, in August many people take a month of for vacation, so there is a 90% chance of getting an out of the office email. However, in Asia they are the complete opposite. She tends to receive emails from her Asian affiliates around the clock. Another thing that she does is facilitates movie screening or press junkets internationally. She doesn’t travel so it is a matter of making sure that the teams overseas have received the information needed and understand the guidelines. This is important since in many of these junkets a portion of never before seen clips are shown. She told me that with screenings their is a lot of legal contracts you need to fill out and they tend to take your phone away. This was not a shocker for me, as I have attended screeners before. However, in Europe there is a policy that you can not take someone's phone away. So to ensure that information does not get leaked, they worked around this law by getting these specialized

This author, Peggy Orenstein talks about and argues that the isolation of boys and girls are pretty relevant through the commercialization of Disney films and toys when all is said in done. Disney and toy organizations are promoting gender roles as a hidden topic in the matter of what boys and girls ought to partake and be. The view of Disney films creates what girls and boys should and shouldn't make strive toward in the public eye. Orenstein demonstrates that gender roles are made through the utilization of Disney motion pictures. The one point I might want to grow and remark on is the commercialization of the Disney princesses Orenstein discusses with her friends.…

When Walt Disney started his company his goal was to “produce great visual entertainment” (Igner, 2008). An idea that quickly took off like a wild fire and grew into a dynasty. Disney still encompasses the visual media but also includes the additions of parks, resorts, consumer products, television stations, animation departments, and movie picture organizations. Each department has goals, missions, and values, but they strive for the same espoused values: “Innovation, Quality, Community, and Storytelling. Optimism, and Decency”. (Sklar) All these values are engrained into the employees by a university they created to teach each cast member (employee) who they are working for, why they are working there, what their goals should be, and how they should carry out their work. This paper will cover those espoused values that Disney strives to reach on a day-to-day, year-to-year, person-by-person basis; and also discuss the enacted values that take place in the magical Never Never Land.…

I will be defending Professor Faden. Disney is trying to sue Faden by saying that he was copyrighting his work, and how it’s not fair use. I think that it is fair use because, he was using it for education purposes, non-commercial purposes, and parody. Also he was only using small portions of Walt Disney’s work. How the judges decides that the work is copyright infringement or fair use is by, the transformative factor. The transformative factor is uses of a source's in a completely new and unexpected way. The judges also decide by the nature of the work. The nature of the work is how it benefits the public. They also decide by the amount and the sustainability of the work. The amount and sustainability of the work is how much of the work is…

Disney has a tremendous amount of exposure to ethics and compliance criticism. Millions of consumers patronize the Disney Company, spending billions on the products and services the company offers. Possessing an ethical and compliant reputation is crucial to the Disney Company’s bottom line. The Disney Company maintains a high level of social responsibility. The company trains and guides its employees and cast members through programs like Disney Development Connection, which provides knowledge and training on how to act ethically and legally in compliance with the company’s standards of business conduct (The Walt Disney Company, 2011). The return on the Disney Company investment in ethics and compliance training has paved the way for Disney to be recognized for its success and contributed to decades of profitable operations with minimal exposure to unethical and incompliant behavior.…

Our class project for research essay #2 was based on different genres of movies. One route was to write about some of Woody Allan's films, another was based on Quentin Taratino's film's. The topic I choose to write about was based on Pixar's "Toy Story" films, and how they show the gradual loss of childhood innocence while teaching us many important life lessons and values. What motivated me to choose this topic instead of the others was when we decided to watch "Toy Story 3" in class. When the movie first came out I was about 14 or 15. I knew the movie was good because of the humor, great graphics, and the storyline. However I couldn't relate to Andy or the Toy's because I never experienced what the characters in the movie were going through.…

Pixar Animation Studios, a company that is combined with Walt Disney Studios, takes the time and effort to give people movies that specialize in animation, becoming one of the most well-known companies when it comes to the movie industry. The creators, Ed Catmull and John Lasseter had no idea that the idea they started was going to become the juggernaut that Pixar is today. Pretty soon, Walt Disney Studios caught on to the idea of Pixar, so Pixar and Disney agreed to a 5-movie deal, in exchange for a portion of Pixar’s stock (Smith 439). Pixar and Disney worked like a charm, making movies about everything from what toys think outside of playtime, to the life on a simple anthill.…

The venture into Hong Kong by Walt Disney was a simple example of a large successful western company not doing its homework. The case presents a clear picture of the importance of understanding a foreign market thoroughly before doing business there. Several factors led to an unsuccessful first year of operations and a majority of these factors could have been avoided with a better cultural understanding in the planning stages. One of the culture differences that was obvious to Disney was the fact that the children are not familiar with the Disney characters. Disney has established its brand and is a marketing poster child in the United States, however this advantage goes out the window in a country such as china that has sheltered itself from the outside world until recently. Disney thought that making a meager attempt at introducing the characters before the launch of the park would help, however familiarity isn’t synonymous with brand attachment. As listed in Global Marketing Management by Kotable & Helson, “Cultural Distance” is one of the six external criteria for choosing a mode of entry into a foreign territory, which was not accounted for by Disney. Cultural distance also recognizes the fact that different cultures have different expectations. This was also the case with China. As stated in the case, “for the tourists of Mainland China, going to Hong Kong means a shopping experience, and so they choose the cheaper alternative to Hong Kong Disneyland…” The case goes on to allude to the fact that the culture in China is one about dollars and cents – when a Chinese person spends his/her money, they are more interested in what they are physically getting. This is very…
