In my UWMC volunteer application statement, I explained the reasons why I'm passionate in volunteering: because of my experience with hospitals and nurses, I developed strong interests in hospital setting, roles of medical staff, and the magnificent human anatomy. After working as both an escort volunteer and a postpartum unit volunteer for over 100 hours, I am finally confident to say that my intuition led me to the right path. Being able to transport patients between different units gave me opportunities to communicate with them, to help them with their needs; while being able to work with nurses helped me building my understanding of the hospital system and unit setup. These two roles not only offered me an opportunity to have both general…
Throughout my life, I have had opportunities to volunteer for numerous causes within my community; however, my years of service through Community Memorial Hospital and my high school Junior Optimist Club have helped me to uncover my compassion for others.…

For some reason, I always go into things with a negative perspective, it’s somewhat of a defense mechanism. My experience as a UCSF Mission Bay Volunteer completely diminished this defense mechanism. At first, I questioned volunteering at UCSF Mission Bay Hospital. I questioned if delivering newspapers and hot beverages would have any effect on patients. I was also scared and sad by the thought of being in the hospital each week and seeing how sick and upset people are. The main reason I wanted to become a volunteer was to gain an experience in the medical field. Little did I know, I would gain a lot more from being a UCSF volunteer. I never really thought I would form relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.…
of hospital. I continue to partake in clinical experiences by selflessly volunteering every Saturday at a hospital, where I fulfil varying request of over 120 patients, resulting in an improvement in my patient interaction…
As a college student, it is important to have volunteering experience, especially pertaining to the field you are interested in pursuing a career in. Since I have been a student at ECU, I have yet to participate in any volunteering opportunities. Considering I will be applying to physician assistant programs within the next two years, I need to start volunteering so I can build my resume, and make myself stand out as a competitive applicant. I used ECU’s Volunteer and Service- Learning Center website to help me search for volunteering opportunities that are available pertaining to my major and goals of becoming a physician assistant. I came across a variety of volunteering projects…
For starters, I provide assistance to those in need as well as act as a leader on and off campus. Last summer, I attended a Cabrillo Extension Youth Institute. We spoke about setting healthy boundaries, speaking firmly, asserting yourself, and teamwork. I believe that these things will greatly impact my academic career as well as my affiliation with the NHS.…

I am currently seeking opportunities to volunteer within my community within the care sector. In the future, I am hoping to pursue a career in Medicine, and therefore this experience would be invaluable to me.…
On my ongoing hospital volunteering placement at King's College Hospital, I have recognised the value of a good bedside manner simply by befriending patients and providing a listening ear, at feeding and reading time. Medicine may have advanced scientifically, but a caring attitude will always play a major role in helping a patient get better, hence why I interpret it as more of more of an art. By being a ward volunteer at King's College Hospital has made me realise how rewarding medicine is. It certainly tests my empathetic integrity every week preparing me for the stark realities of medicine.…
Sometimes it isn’t easy trying to find the time to serve your community in the way it counts, but the action does not have to be world changing, it is the fact that someone’s life was impacted because of your work. Since I have been volunteering at the Adam’s County Regional Medical Center, I have learned some very valuable lessons. The most important one is that the smallest action could make someone’s day. There was one day I was waiting with a woman in the hallway while her husband was getting an x-ray. She continued to tell me everything that was happening in her life both the ups and the downs.…
In my aspirations to become a Registered Nurse, I volunteered at Humber River Hospital. I started as a co-op student in high school, and as I met with nurses and doctors there I decided to continue volunteering after my co-op placement. Volunteering at a hospital has been the most valuable experience for me because it gave me a chance to see the roles of nurses.…
A lot of effort was required to do my volunteer work. The clinic is very busy so I always have to be on my feet. I volunteered from 8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday. The mornings mainly consisted of filing away the therapist’s notes into the patient’s files. After the filing was done, I would “shadow” behind the therapists and assist them with various tasks. I retrieved hot and cold packs for patients by retrieving them out of the clinic’s back room and putting them on the patient’s injuries, then returning the packs once the timers went off. I cleaned the beds once the patients were finished with treatment by spraying them with a disinfecting cleaner and wiping them down to keep the area hygienic. I showed patients how to perform their basic exercises to improve better ranges of motion for whatever condition they had by doing it with them. For example,…
Youth Volunteer Corps of Greater Kansas City has impacted my life the most. It has sparked my passion for giving back to the community and has influenced me to continue volunteering when I go to college.…
In the process of doing this project, I learned a lot about myself. I learned that when you’re giving back to people in need really does make you feel like a better person. Seeing the hospital employees look at you like you were truly helping them. There were also personal lessons that I learned. You can’t rely on other people to help you with your project, and if you are responsible enough to do the project on your own, I suggest not adding people to your group.…
