Analysis Of Self Destructed By Evan Jacobs
Self Destructed by Evan Jacobs is about high school love going down hill. Ashley Walters and Michael Ellis both attend the same school, Willmore High School. The first day of school Ashley bumped into Michael, and he fell in love at first sight. The author, Evan Jacobs, makes you think that this book is going to be about high school love from the beginning of the first chapter. The cover of the book start to make more sense as you read farther into the book. The way the author wrote their feelings for each other makes you feel like you know them. They go on their first date after talking all week in school, and hit it off pretty good for the first time. The more they hung out the more Michael falls in love with Ashley. They probably been talking for a couple weeks now, and their hanging out and Ashley plays a song and Michael doesn't like it and lost his temper and got into a argument with her over the song. After the argument they decided it was a good time to go home , ashley was scared of Michael she has never seen him like that so aggressive. Ashley was scared of how Michael reacted so she quit talking to him. Michael thought it was just a fight and they would get over it . The day go by, and they haven't talked so he tries calling her she doesn't answer and he loses it and freaks out. Couple weeks later Michael sees …show more content…
I'm glad I got to read this book , being the first person to read it because it's new is pretty cool. I would recommend this book to anyone. “You can't judge a book by its cover” the cover of this book and the story are way different but it adds up at the end. Just reading how his life went down hill then he got it back together made it such a good book. From the front of book you think it's going to be about someone in jail not a high school boy who goes to jail over a

My initial response once I read the first third of the book was that I am really going to enjoy it. I thought that because it has a very strong plot which makes it very interesting for me to read. I like how the author gets right to the point, but still makes you think about what is going on in the novel. Another thing that made me think it will be a good book is that it is very realistic so I can relate to what’s happening and really understand the things going on.…

It reminded me of innocence.” (25) Hannah was talking about how when she saw the rocket ship, it reminded her of home, and everything that made her happy and peaceful. Also, it was a dream about what was happening in the park and dreaming about Justin and imagining how they will meet at the park. After that they met, rumors started to spread on what happened when they kissed. How this relates the theme is that, people will do anything they can that will keep their reputation and make lies that hide the truth from others. In which can affect others badly because only that person knows the truth but no one would believe them because they would believe the popular person or the more “high…

It has very tough issues and a lot of language. This would be a book for upper middle school to high school. This is a book you would have to be very careful with, you would need a lot of parent permission and a class/student that you could have great discussion with. However, that is not to say that it is not worth reading. I think that a lot of students today have a hard time backing down from an issue, even if it is meaningless, so this could really be relatable. Some strategies that could be used with this book include predicting, inferring, and making connections. I think that inferring could be a great strategy for this book because you can use the pictures and the text to find out what the author is really…

One reason I like this book is because it could possibly help people who are going through these same problems he was. Jay was peer pressured by his girlfriend to steal drugs from his father's store and to use them himself. I don't know anybody that has been through the same things that he has, nor have I been through them. I think that if people read this book they would think more before they do some things and not do drugs or fool around with witchcraft. This would be a great book for teens going through the same problems.…

When reading this book it really made me think about the life we live today in the United States. How most of the young people don’t think about what could happen to them if they get into gangs, also if they keep on doing bad things like he did. At the beginning the book was really boring and hard to read, but once I got pass Chapter 1 and 2 it’s when all the action started to hit and when it got really interesting. I could really relate to this book in very different ways, like how at the beginning of the story he did not speak English, and how he felt around people who did, how he would think they were talking about him, and how because he did not speak the language people made fun of him, were racist to him because of being Mexican and how they kept him apart from everything else. Also how he lived in el barrio* this reminds me of where I used to live in Cuba, a poor neighborhood with lots of lomas* and people just hanging around because they have nothing else to do as there are no jobs for them. I believe this is a really interesting book that every teen should read. As we are starting life most of us don’t know what we want, and some think that being in a gang is “cool”. Also at the end of the book the author tells about his current life as a writer and how much it has changed. This told me that everyone could be successful in life no matter what you are right now you can always change your lifestyle and be…

Ashley was born in North Carolina. She was born to a seventeen-year-old single mom. According to her, two days compete for the worst day in her life: the first is the day she was taken from her mother; the second is the day she arrived at the Moss´ foster home four years later. The day she was taken from her mother, she had left South Carolina bound for Florida with her mother, her mother´s husband, and her younger brother Luke. She was only three years old. Before she was taken from her mother, she was an intuitive two-year-old, soaking up language and behaviors from a crew of rowdy adolescents who were trying on adult attitudes and habits. She used to get attention by acting grown up. Her mother used to spend her time hanging out with friends, while her sister was taking care of Ashley. After her mother got pregnant with Luke, everything changed for Ashley. Dusty, her mother´s husband was abusing her mother, physically and emotionally. Once he almost hit Ashley with a chair. Ashley´s mom was about to leave Dusty many times but she never did because she was afraid of him.…

The Destructors, authored by Graham Greene, conveys the idea that people have the instinctive ability to destroy, and make a guilt choice, between what they believe in what is right from wrong. The Destructors is to show how clear the characters and their actions are projected and guided by the subtle message of irony. The central theme of this short story is of a group of teenagers who call themselves the ‘Wormsley Common Gang’. The gang of misfits live by their own rules, despite the expectations of average citizens.…
