Must say that in reading Billings and Halstead chapter 15, wasn’t aware of so many strategies of teaching. Intrigued by three sources that Rosenshine used, they are as follows:
• Research in cognitive science.
• Research on the classroom practices of master teachers
• Research on cognitive supports to help students learn complex task.
Rosenshine, 2012 These three sources focus on how the human brain gets information and interprets it, the second one addresses teachers that have attained the uppermost successes on test, and finally the last one encompasses scaffolding and rendering models (Rosenshine, 2012, p. 13). In order to facilitate learning an educator must be fluent in different strategies. In order for learning to occur Knowles

I tend to use a variety of different teaching strategies. Reece and Walker (2006:101) state that “the choice of teaching strategy is often related to your own individual style and what makes you feel most comfortable in doing. However, there are some overall rules that you may like to consider. The first is the type of objective that you want your students to achieve. The second is the number of students you have to teach”.…

At some point in our lives we all ask the same generalized questions; whether it be out loud, or mentally. As a returning student one of the common topics is the brain. How do the different parts work? How do we learn? Why do I learn differently than you? I have yet to find all of the answers, but thankfully, Gardner has broken down the seven intelligences within the brain that can stimulate and support different ways we, as humans, accept and retain the knowledge we come into contact with daily.…

The teaching/ training cycle consists of five phases. The initial stage is ‘Identifying Needs’. I am the assessor, reviewer; sign poster. It is my responsibility to identify the needs of learners usually based on their social, physical, intellectual, cultural and emotional needs. I ask previous teachers, look at the ROA, Use a VARK test to see what different learning styles (visual, auditory read/write and kinaesthetic). Cooper (1996) as cited in Wilson (2009)analysed peoples learning preferences, following the assumption that most learning occurs through the left side of the brain (noted for logic and order) yet by using the right side of the brain (noted for creativity), learning could be enhanced. I must provide an appropriate learning environment. I must set professional boundaries in the teacher/learner relationship. I must know where my professional role stops and refer them onto someone else if the learner has any financial, personal issues.…

Visual learners, this is learning though seeing. These types of learners would need to see the teacher’s body language and the teacher’s facial expression to completely understand the content of the lesson. It is mostly that there’s types of learners normally sit at the front of the classroom to avoid visual obstructions an example would be people’s heads. Visual learners best learn from displays this includes; diagrams, illustrated text books, videos, flipcharts, use of interactive whiteboards and hand-outs. When a classroom or lesson discussion, visual learners normally want to take detailed notes to take in the information. Teachers modelling at the beginning of the three-part lesson are particularly suitable for these children. The quality of display, AVAs, printed material etc is going to have an effect of the quality of learning of visual learners.…

Using findings from Cognitive Development Theory of Educational Psychology, the instructor can more successfully understand the student’s mind and base their teaching on where the student is in stage of cognitive development, if they are in disequilibrium or equilibrium, and where the student’s zone of proximal development is, among other things. This will help make each and every lesson with the student more potent and allow the student to move along at a rate that fits their cognitive development…

In my speciality I use many various strategies in regards to teaching and learning. In this point I will explain in detail methods I used when teaching the learners I work with but also strategies to assess their learning and my own. When looking at various strategies and approaches that are used I often place myself in the situation of facilitating learning in order to get a good picture. I firstly, like to ensure that the teaching will engage, stimulate and motivate and provide the necessary teaching content in order for them to learn. A strategy I often use to start the lesson is an ‘icebreaker’. This will help establish/reiterate ground rules for the lesson but also help…

There are different styles of teaching, as each pupil will learn in a different style, these include visual learners, auditory learners and kinesthetic learners. These learners all need different ways of helping them to learn. For example a auditory learner learns by using auditory awareness, they prefer to listen rather than watch or take part.…

We cannot assume that just because a teacher teaches, a learner learns. The process is far more complex than one of received input and intended outcome. This is because teachers, when engaging with learners, are not involved in programming machines; the learning process involves humans who are diverse in their needs, development, attitudes, values and beliefs.…
