The central nervous system (CNS) is the processing center for the nervous system and it controls the bodies movements (Bailey, Regina 2016). The brain and the spinal cord are the two main organs that communicate with the central nervous system. Both the brain and the spinal cord are protected by 3 layers of tissue; much like guards. They are called the meninges.
The Brain

Within the brain lie the different centers controlling the different body functions. For example, the main area for breathing is at the base of the brainstem called medulla oblongata (National Heart Lung and Brain Institute, 2012). The center controlling the body temperature lies in the hypothalamus. If the brain were to be injured, damaged or infected, the body functions under that area of control would be affected too. For instance is the medulla oblongata where the center for respiration control lies is injured, the respiratory function will be affected
