Analysis Of Why I Live A Zero Waste Life By Lauren Singer
Context

Lauren Singer discusses her experience in living a environmental friendly lifestyle in her Ted Talk “Why I Live a Zero Waste Life”. She describes a zero-waste life as one where she only buys produce from farmers markets, makes her own health and beauty products, and buys all her clothing second hand. She held up a small jar that exhibits all the plastic waste she’s used in the past three years. Throughout the video, Singer’s body language conveys herself as confident and convincing. Features of body languages, including eye-contact, facial expressions, hand gestures, and posture can be crucial in communicating persuasively to one’s audience.

Eye Contact and Facial Expressions
Singer continuously makes eye contact throughout her discussion. There is never a point in the selected portion of the food where she looks at the ground or to the side. Furthermore, it is observed that she shifts her gaze towards different regions of the audience. It can also be observed that Singer manifests different facial expressions including smiling, frowning, and appearing puzzled in order to indicate to the audience how they should react to what she has stated. This can be exemplified when she mentions that before she made the switch, everything in her fridge was packaged in plastic, as she makes a discontent face which can signal to the audience that the plastic packaging is undesirable. …show more content…
