Analysis On Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
With College Comes Great Responsibility College athletes should be compensated for the benefit of the student. College athletes get and put in a lot of effort and get no reward for all of their hard work and dedication. We should choose the fair market rather than the black market. College athletes would benefit from this. These college athletes are spectacular athletes and you don’t see very many athletes that can do the things that these guys can. College you work hard and put so much effort into it and they don’t get anything. The black market is bad and the fair market is the only fair way. Compensate the athletes before the black market is into too much trouble that they can’t fix. These colleges have so much money. They also say that they are in school and need to focus on school. “ Students get $2,000 dollars in allowance” ( Emmert ). These college athletes say that they need to get paid. They don’t. Instead of policing an underground economy, the NCAA could focus on improving academic performance and graduation rates. (Schwarz and Rascher). This is why college athletes should not be compensated.
In conclusion there are very many things and aspects we can argue here. The only thing that is right is that college athletes should be compensated. The side I agree with is pros, which means yes college athletes should get paid. I think this because they should get the money the need. I say this because college athletes will have to do two things, And it may come to having to leave your sport activity early or quitting the job, And do you really want to do any of those? Also because they maybe have a family to take care of and they can't do it without money right? Maybe even have a family member that's hurt/ dieing/ or even dead. And you have to go to the funeral or go help them and see if they're doing ok.…

Well except for the fact that players don’t get paid for their labor. If you look at it players should see at least little part of whatever money they generate, for example Texas A&M start quarterback Jonny Manzel is said to be responsible for close to 2.5 million dollars in revenue generated for the school alone. Because of TV, merchandise, tickets sales and him just playing there Texas A&M gets that much extra money. He doesn’t get anything from it, in fact most college athletes are struggling money wise while on campus. Coaches on the other hand, since players can’t get paid the coaches make 6 and sometimes 7 figures. John Kalipary, the head coach at Kentucky University has a 4 million dollar salary. This just isn’t fair to the student athlete and I think they should have some sort of compensation for all that they…

Many argue that these athletes are at school to get an education, but some come from families that could use the extra money for necessities. If these athletes were to get paid to play it could give them an incentive to not sell merchandise and to stay in school and get their degree. Also, Rob Gilmore who is an ESPN college football analyst states that at least 42 of the 119 division 1 football coaches earn more than $1 million per year, but the athletes are the ones out on the field. So if it wasn’t for the performance of the athletes, the coaches would not earn those…

After doing some research over a year ago and taking another look at this issue now, the question about paying college athletes has stayed the same. The debate whether to pay college athletes or not arose in the 1980s after Southern Methodist University was caught paying football players for their services. Upon discovery of these infractions, SMU was administered the “death penalty”, including loss of scholarships and no participation in bowl games for five years. The controversy surrounding paying college athletes seems to have risen from this unfortunate circumstance and has been cultivated into a huge social topic today. Following the SMU scandal in the late 1980s the NCAA rewrote their guidebook that describes an athlete’s role in an academic institution. According to the NCAA, “Student-athletes are students first and athletes second. They are not university employees who are paid for their labor” (NCAA.com). Looking at the arguments made by the NCAA, they make a valid point in showing how athletes are “compensated” for their participation in sports. According to the NCAA, “Many [athletes] receive athletics grants-in-aid that can be…

Why should college athletes be paid to participate in their sports? College athletes are awarded tuition free college due to their hard work and athletic abilities, why should they get paid extra money outside of their tuition being paid? Student athletes in college only have two jobs while they are attending, to learn and become a better and smarter athlete. These student athletes don’t need extra money outside of having their tuition, room and board, and food paid for. They are also given clothing which takes away another money based need. These student athletes are given much more than other students and yet they still believe that they should be paid for their extra work outside of their performances. The main reason is because they are already paid through their scholarships to go to school and play sports. Other reasons to this opinion is to maintain their amatuer status, difficult…

Classes. Game time. Stress. College athletes have a plentiful amount on their plate. Not knowing where money would come from adds more on top of school and sports. The NCAA makes an estimate of nine hundred and eighty nine million dollars annually. The NCAA is able to make this gigantic profit while paying its employees absolutely nothing. If this situation would happen with a large employer paying its employees nothing, the company would get into serious legal trouble. However, since they are college athletes, society thinks it is okay. While many people say that receiving an education is enough of a privilege and paying college athletes would ruin the spirit of the game, college athletes should nevertheless be able to use their names for monetary gain because, everyone else in the business gets paid, college athletes train like professional athletes and athletes produce millions for their college but are paid nothing.…

Student athletes should be compensated for their work, as they are the sole reason for the Athletic Program’s surplus in revenue. These athletes are working for the schools and are doing a service to the college that seems to go unnoticed. Colleges are using these athletes to boost their respective reputations and bring in revenue while not compensating these athletes for their work. Everywhere else athletes are paid, so why shouldn’t college students too? Some critics may argue that these student-athletes are amateurs, and if paid then are becoming professional athletes. The minor league for baseball could be considered an amateur sport, although they do receive pay according to the team’s revenue.…
