Throughout history the United States has seen so many drastic changes. These changes have been seen in many of the decades like the 1920’s, 1930’s ,and 1940’s. Through these years the United States has seen drastic changes in policies for things such war, economy, and social views and in the political field. These decades were some of the most important years of American history. They showed American power, will, and strength. The twenties had a false prosperity. From the outside, America looked like a very prosperous place. However, on the inside there were a lot of hidden economic, social, and political problems. A major problem that the United states had during the twenties was that more than 60% of the population was living below poverty levels and the top 1% owned 40% of the nation’s wealth (“Why It Happened”, 2016). This uneven distribution of wealth was mirrored in the unequal distribution of riches between industry and agriculture. The quick economic growth gave the people a sense of security and swept many Americans into a “consumer society”. To add on there was also great crime, due to prohibition. Organised crime increased and corruption increased among public officials. During the first ten years of prohibition, the murder rate climbed to 78% across the country (David J. Hanson, “Negative Effects of Prohibition: Do You Know These 17?”). Two notable people during the time were Al Capone and George Remus. Remus had meetings with the Prohibition Bureau and bribed an estimated of half of his clients and associates (“The real Great Gatsby: Cincinnati lawyer known as 'King of Bootleggers'”, 2015) .
