She was born and raised with her two sisters in Eagle Pass, Texas. She was raised by both her parents until they divorced when she was in middle school. She claims that the divorce wasn’t hard on her she understood the reasons her parents split up. Her father was married again soon after and they have since then had another child, her first brother. Her mother has also remarried to a man that has three children of his own from a first marriage. She gets along well with all of them and calls them her brothers and sisters even though they are not blood related. In high school, she had been the team captain of her soccer team and enjoys playing still to this day. She says that she used soccer as an outlet to deal with her stresses and believes it was a helpful coping mechanism. High school students are faced with the developmental stage presented by Erikson known as Identity versus Role confusion. I believe that soccer helped her find herself and also assisted with focusing on being in school and keeping up her grades. After she graduated high school she moved closer to her mother who resides in San Antonio, Texas. She lived with her as she started nursing school which is where I met her.
