Analyzing Erikson's Crucial Stages Of Development

Erik Erikson was a psychologist and psychoanalysis that focused his studies of human development. Following in Freud’s footsteps, Erikson still to this day is one of the most influential theorists of developmental psychology. Erikson created a theory of stages of development that a person will go through in one’s lifetime. He believed that a person’s personal characteristics would be influenced by the effect of meeting specific requirements in each age group. His theory takes a close look on how personal relationships and events will impact a person through their lifetime. In each stage there is a basic virtue and it is believed that the person must meet its requirements to move to the next stage of development in their life. Upon interviewing
She was born and raised with her two sisters in Eagle Pass, Texas. She was raised by both her parents until they divorced when she was in middle school. She claims that the divorce wasn’t hard on her she understood the reasons her parents split up. Her father was married again soon after and they have since then had another child, her first brother. Her mother has also remarried to a man that has three children of his own from a first marriage. She gets along well with all of them and calls them her brothers and sisters even though they are not blood related. In high school, she had been the team captain of her soccer team and enjoys playing still to this day. She says that she used soccer as an outlet to deal with her stresses and believes it was a helpful coping mechanism. High school students are faced with the developmental stage presented by Erikson known as Identity versus Role confusion. I believe that soccer helped her find herself and also assisted with focusing on being in school and keeping up her grades. After she graduated high school she moved closer to her mother who resides in San Antonio, Texas. She lived with her as she started nursing school which is where I met her. She also has a boyfriend that she feels she is in love with and wants to spend her life with. She has the fortune of good health and so far doesn’t have any existing medical
She has found love in her boyfriend and plans on having a future with him. She has seemed to fulfill the other stages leading up to this in order to successfully reach this stage. When interviewing her she did mention that she has had some troubles with behavior. She believes she has some depression that is not caused by anything specific. She is worried about being on medications for depression and it having adverse side effects.
