“The ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved”, this is the American Dream. The American Dream is the cornerstone of our nation, symbolizing how every dream is within reach. Displayed in novels like The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the American Dream is reached by many, and a similar conclusion is shared: the American Dream is achievable, but expectations are higher than reality, and the ideal end is often ruined or lost. While it is debatable if the American Dream is achievable or not, through a few novels, we glean the “rags to riches” story, which helps to develop an overarching sense of incontentment shown by characters…

Even though their similarities there are some things that make them different. Although Everett and Odysseus are alike, Everett has better skills to be a leader, which helped him and his crew get to where they need to go.…

For some reasons, the managers’ positions have been seen in a negative way for many years. However, this does not change the essentiality of this position in any organization, especially in business set-ups. There have been a constant confusion between the role of leaders and managers, and what should be clearly established is that these two roles do not share the same meaning. Being a manager does not guarantee that one is already a good leader. However, leaders can be effective managers. This only means that in order for managers to be effective and avoid negative feedback, they should have sufficient knowledge and skills on leadership. Aside from this, managing and leading a company will also have different impacts on the organization, as well as business outputs (Treacy, 2006). Not all of the renowned managers are great leaders, but these two cannot be separated. As a matter of fact, so many supervisors, administrators, and other high-ranking officials in different organizations have been performing their role without being good leaders themselves. It is just that their positions open better opportunities to be leaders. A manager can truly rise from other managers if he or she manages to be an efficient manager and leader at the same time (Bateman & Snell, 2009).…

The main issue that was the most efficient problem was the management inability to foresee and take dynamic action to change. Organizations change in better interest of the customers. Management has to be proactive when deciding on what changes requires active action. Failure to adapt to a positive change will lead the organization to an unsuccessful path. When one reflects on whether leaders are born or made, it is important to define what a leader is as well as to distinguish between a leader in management and a leader in another field of expertise. “Leadership and management are two distinctive yet complementary systems of action.”(Story Cover, 1993). Because “management power comes from organizational structure, it promotes stability, order and problem solving within the structure. Leadership power, on the other hand, comes form personal sources that are not as invested in the organization, such as personal interests, goals and values. Leadership power promotes vision, creativity and change in the organization” (Samson and Daft, 2005). Management centres on handling complexity and Leadership are to face the new challenges (Story, 1993). For example, in peacetime, an army can train very well under good management, but there is no one who can manage people into battle, the soldiers of course will led by leaders (Story, 1993). “Management is a skill that can be learned, Leadership is a calling”(Shea, cited in Story, 1993, p.34). Shea acknowledges, “Some leadership qualities can be learned, but only if the 'raw material' exists” (Shea, cited in Story, 1993, p.34). Therefore when good leaders are provided with ample management skills, then they can get their goals, good leaders will be able to communicate their goals to employees in such an effective way that the employees will be able to identify with the goals and will strive to achieve it. “According to Shea, a good manager may…

In the beginning there was the word: leader-managers. I will begin this essay by briefly differentiate between a leader and a manager. A manager has subordinates, meaning he has power over the people under him, while a leader has followers, people who are willing to follow and not obliged to. Huband (1992) wrote that a manager uses his authority as a boss to gain power while a leader uses his charisma to be a role model. In this essay, we will assume that a manager and a leader is the same person, as in the real world, many people are both. In the modern business world, there are many problems that a manger might face as the world gets more and more complex. To gain a competitive edge, managers are under pressure to perform and being a good manager might not be hard but being a great one is what makes the difference.…

Another really big thing of being a good leader is being able to not rely on others to make his/her decisions for them but is able to make their own decisions. A strong leader would be someone that has their own opinion and is not influenced by other people's ideas. He/she also has to be quick on there feet they will be out in situations that require quick thinking. He/she has to stand strong for what he/she thinks is right. If a leader is slow thinking and might not be able to stand for themselves and gives in to what other people tell them, then very often the people that are telling them what to do have them do something they don’t think is right. They might tell the person to do one thing that could that could get them in a bad situation with their…
